“lovely pub and good food”
Reviewed July 21, 2012

We visited this pub a few times while satying in Instow. Has a lovely atmosphere, although I did feel a little awkward if only going for a drink as all the tables are usually reserved for people eating so no where for us to sit. We had a meal on our last night and it was lovely...hugh portions. The only down point was the wait...table booked for 7.15pm and we didnt get our starter until 8.15pm...and to be honest it wasn't even that busy...but as said before food lovely so I suppose worth the wait! Would return

We spent 2 nights here for our wedding anniversary. Room was lovely, airy and bright - Decor relaxing. Although above a very busy bar/restaurant we could hardly hear any noise. Breakfast was plentiful and enough to keep you going all day. Main meals in restaurant were superb with a good choice
Hostess Vera is a lovely lady and ensures your stay is relaxing.
Would certainly stay here again as excellent value.

We stayed here whilst visiting friends in the area. The evening meal was good pub grub with extra quality. The room was simple but comfortable. The breakfast was good in size portion and quality. However I was concerned at having to ask the Landlord for my credit card 3 times once I had paid the bill. Maybe absent mindedness, but having suffered card fraud once a few years ago, I am very aware now a days.

From the moment you walk into the Wayfarer you are embraced by the warmth and cosiness of a traditional country pub, added by the warmth of the staff, who are friendly and welcoming. The daily menu isn't vast, purely because of the large array of specials on offer every day to compliment it; each time we visit the choice is so mouthwatering it takes time to commit to our selection.

Seafood doesn't come fresher than this, and their scallops in bacon are the plumpest and most appetising we've had. For vegetarians, this is an establishment where you won't be disappointed by the amount of choice available - from inventive salads, to Mediterranean roasted vegetable Wellington, and their garlic mushrooms are highly recommended! The staff happily cater to any and all dietary requests, and you won't be disappointed in the portion size either, they certainly don't want you to go home hungry. The duck, peach and raspberry salad has to be experienced and is simply devine, and when it comes to dessert my husband absolutely raved about their homemade chocolate brulee, with a mix of dark, milk and white chocolate. If you are looking for a Sunday roast this is most definitely the place to go for an absolutely delicious feast of traditional meats and vegetables, always with a vegetarian option on offer. The daily choice of local seafood is also unsurpassable whether you like bass, monkfish, salmon or shellfish, and always served with an inventive but delectable twist to compliment the flavours.

The location itself is just lovely, a quaint village pub in a small lane just opposite Instow beach. This is simply one of our favourite local eateries and we cannot recommend it more highly - booking is advisable though as it's very popular, and understandably so!

The Wayfarer's Inn is very well situated a few yards back from the sea at Instow. I stayed there while walking the SW Coastal Path. The staff are all friendly and helpful. My room was fine and comfortably equipped. There is free WiFi. The food is the outstanding feature: a good cut above standard pub food and good value for the quality, which is comparable to that of many good restaurants. One star off though for there being no soap/shower gel in the shower. It is many years since I last experienced this, even in places much cheaper than here. As a walker who carries as little as possible I don't expect to be faced with this situation these days. Come on folks - just fit a holder in the showers and then fill it with a combined gel/shampoo which you can buy in bulk at a very low price. Apart from anything else, your guests will smell much better at breakfast.

We needed a break away from the teens! This is the perfect place for it. The Inn has a genuinely friendly feel to it, the staff are just great and the food is perfect. If you are looking for a quaint, clean restaurant with a modern touch, this is the place. Our room looked out over a small lane with typical Devon cottages lining it, to the left was a great view of the sea. The sea and it's truely golden sandy beach are with 75 metres of the inn! Its a real escape for adults but we would take small children if we had them as the sea and sand is perfect. The room was modern and very clean, clean sheets and a clean shower room. Maid service visited during the day. Breakfast was also very very good, we could not fault the food or service at all. We walked along the Tarka trail into Bideford, nice walk and Bideford has lots of coffee shops etc. We would never normally do this: but, we purchased a bus dayrider ticket for just £3.60 and spent one day just visiting local villages and coastline- the bus service is regular and easy. We would definitely visit again and stay in the wayfarer. I'll just finish by reiterating how good the food is, traditional menu with a twist, home cooked and good portion sizes. You could go here for a romantic meal or a family celecbration, it is suited to both. This is a genuine review by the way.

Room Tip: ask for a sea view and the penthouse
