We were in room 87 on the first floor, it was a fair size, had a large comfortable bed, man made duvet (took my own feather one so I was happy) plenty of hanging and drawer space (extra hangers might be needed as only 8 given) safe in room - small deposit needed for lock - well stocked beverage tray, small tv, hairdryer, air filter, good sized window and lovely view over towards the moors. Although dated, it was clean, and in an acceptable state of repair, just a few signs of wear. The bathroom was a good size, water very hot and shower lovely and powerful. Towels good quality and fluffy.
An amazing labyrinth of covered walkways linked the sports and craft compelex to the rooms and reception/dining area of the hotel. All sports courts, swimming pools, general sports areas were an excellent standard. Variety of activities you could do for free was incredible. we tried archery, rifle and pistol shooting, lazer clay pigeon, bowls, ten pin bowling, snooker and swimming but only scratched the surface of what you could do.
A small charge was made for items created in the craft centre but these we so low compared to any classes I've done anywhere before! I tried glass engraving, candle dipping, pottery transfers, porcelain painting, silk painting, jewellery making - but there was so much more to chose from, it was hard deciding what to leave out. My photos show my first attempts at some of these classes - they are very basic compared to what a lot of people were doing and only show a tiny fraction of the crafts you could try.
Photography and moor walks were available and trips to the Eden project. We never got near the massage/pedicure/manicure/raiki etc areas so can't comment on those.
There was designated seating for breakfast and dinner, free seating for lunch. On arrival and departure day you can buy your lunch for £5 each as check in is at 3pm, check out at 10am. It was no problem to stay to do a class on departure day as long as the room was cleared. A complimentary bottle of wine is given per room on Sundays, Tuesdays and Thursdays. The homemade main course items at lunch (plus there was a good salad bar as an alternative to the hot dishes) and dinner were delicious and choice good, the vegetarian dishes were excellent - I'm not a veggie but tried them all as they were so tempting and all were lovely. Deserts were big and irresistable. For us the vegetables were way overcooked but that's just a personal thing. Breakfast was simple but...More
