“Lovely view of the sea.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 21, 2013

My husband and I stayed here while traveling through the area. The hotel is very old but is lovely with much character and charm. The hotel staff were friendly and welcoming. Our room had a beautiful view of the grounds and the sea. Since there was no air conditioning on a very hot day, we asked for a fan and it was delivered immediately. The room was large and very comfortable. The light/fan in the bath was broken so we were left with a very small light over the sink in the bath. The food in the restaurant for dinner was very good but the included breakfast was not. I would definitely stay here again.

Stayed here for just one night and was expecting it to be far better in the bedrooms. It cost £99 for the night, but don't feel it was worth it. The room was very spacious but the furniture old and tired looking. The bed did not look at all welcoming with it's plain white cover. No cushions or throw to liven it up. Although we did sleep OK to be fair.

The room was on the front and had a sea view, but the old sash windows, really rattled and banged against the frame when the wind blew and when we sat in the armchairs in the window, the draught was very bad. I tried to turn the radiator on, but it didn't come on. It was then that I noticed a load of dust on the top of the radiator which needed a really good clean.

We also had to put up with constant door banging from other guests on the same floor and could hear the people in the room above making a noise.

When I tried to draw the big curtains in the evening, they only went around the bay window so far, and had a huge gap where they would close no further. Being on the front and in view of a road and grassy area with a path opposite, it was not very ideal.

The good points, were that the downstairs public areas of the hotel was nice and comfortable. The staff were very helpful and friendly. The breakfast in the dining room was 10/10. Really delicious. We have been in the hotel before for drinks in the bar and also ate at Donato's restaurant downstairs.

Luckily we have family in Exmouth who we normally stay with, but I would not stay here again for that price, as I'm sure there's other places that would be cheaper. We travel all over the country for weekends away, and at far less than that price we have had 5* rooms which were immaculate.

Stayed here for three nights. The hotel is old and has much atmosphere, but is a bit old. This of coure adds to the atmosphere in many ways, but the squeaky floors were a bit annoying in the end. Room was nice and clean, but not really modern. The staff was very nice and helpful. Location is great, short way from the railway station and with a beautiful view.

Like other reviewers, I stayed at the Royal Beacon whilst attending a family party near Exeter. The 90yo birthday girl had been to parties in the hotel in the 1940s. There was a warm welcome (even though the sea facing room did have draughty windows, the weather was exceptionally ghastly) and staff could not have been more helpful and kind. The free wifi was an unexpected bonus, I had wondered why the bar was always busy with seemingly non residents, now I realise.

The 3 rooms were clean and well equipped, but bathroom lighting poor. We ate in the basement restaurant both nights, the food was good and served with humour and care. I had been anxious about the parking, but the road really did have spaces even at busy times.

Yes Mr Adminstrator, put some money into this, its a great hotel and could be magnificent.

We stayed for the first time last weekend, the bank holiday, to attend my sisters 25th w/a party on a river boat cruise. The hotel is a short walk to the jetty.

Gorgeous views from our window at the front. The staff we met were brilliant - very professional.

There is a car park and free parking on the road outside but on the Saturday (the best weather day) we went out and couldn't find a space on the return. We drove down to the beach car park (about 10 mins walk back), stuck £2 in the machine and left the car for 2 hours until the beach cleared, retrieved the car and parked it just a few metres from the hotel. Nothing to do with the hotel but just a heads up for anyone who stays. Don't go round and round looking for a space, it's a waste of petrol!

Saturday night dinner was delicious, very good portions and a very reasonable price. Sunday breakfast (incl. in price) same again. Check in and out was very quick.

As a last note: Our room was very good, well presented, no signs of needing refurbishing whatsoever and our relatives and friends who also stayed didn't report anything either.

Room Tip: book a Sea view room.

We stayed at the Royal Beacon Hotel in Exmouth over this week-end. The rooms were very clean, and the staff very friendly and helpful. The Dining staff at breakfast were very good There was 17 of us for Sunday lunch and the food was excellent, with a great choice of menu. The bar staff were also very helpful. Part of the hotel, i.e. the Lounge could do with upgrading, but I think they have started doing this I would go back again.

Room Tip: It is only a 5 minute walk to the beach

we travelled from dorset in terrible weather...arrived early but was greeted with such warmth from the young lady in reception who fetched us tea and coffee in the lounge as we were far too early for our room to be ready...we went into town for our lunch and returned to a room of such luxury and views of the beach...a short walk opposite the hotel and down the garden path led us to the pavilion for our showaddywaddy show...breakfast was excellent...although we like to experience different places for our evening meal we decided to eat in the hotel restaurant on one evening which was really good...we had a night cap in the bar each evening...we admit that this hotel is out of our normal price range but we booked because it had a special cheaper discount. As we are older and find being out and about all day too much now it was great to sit in the room and relax quite a bit with such an brilliant view from our window...we will definately save our pennies and look out for another special offer!!

Room Tip: a must is a sea view room
