This is not the typical large NT country house and estate. Instead, it is rather special and certainly unique. Designed and occupied by two sisters, the room layout follows the path of the sun so that they always had natural light. The rooms are small and intimate with a shape dictated by the polygon floor plan and narrow staircases (some of the house would be a bit of a problem for those less mobile). There's great view across the estuary of the River Exe and a room for children to dress and carry out craftwork. The stewards are friendly and helpful and coped well with our two young and exuberant grandchildren. The access road is a typical Devon country lane: so watch out for traffic, especially as you enter Summer Lane.
