We were on a Shearings holiday. On arrival at the hotel we were greeted by the general manager who informed us straight away that the TV sets in the rooms were not working due to a problem with the digital box which linked all the sets. He said that this was not the fault of the hotel or of Shearings and that the problem might be resolved by Thursday - 3 days later. It was said in a very matter of fact way and with no apology given. The main bar closed early but another was available in the ballroom. This was on the lower ground floor. It was a dark room with no natural light and the ceiling was in need of repair and decoration in parts. There was some entertainment on most evenings and after the entertainment had finished background music was played. The music was very dated. Cocktails were advertised but they were not mixed to order but came from a pre-pack -very disappointing. The dining room was comfortable but we were not given ample time to look at the menu before being asked to choose from three options for each course. The food was served quickly but reminded me a little of school meals. The speed in which it was served and the quality made me think it was not cooked to order. There was a wine list on the table but we were not asked if we would like a drink with our meal. The bathroom was clean but very small. The sink was loose and there was not enough room in the bathroom to dry yourself comfortably. My overall impression of the hotel was old fashioned and disappointing. The best feature was the location, directly opposite the beach and within walking distance of the harbour and boat trips. Would not stay here again.
