“Fantastic for a quiet holiday”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 28, 2014

This Hotel in the middle of Exmoor offers a relaxing holiday with excellent food and a superb bar with a range of scotch! The rooms are well appointed and the service by both Andrew , Louise and staff could not be bettered in any hotel we have stayed in. The facilities they also offer for school parties are excellent and you would not know that were 20odd children enjoying cycling walking climbing archery etc at the same time as we stayed.

Room Tip: Ask for the 4 poster!!

Outstanding hospitality for our walking group of 8. Nothing was too much trouble even to finding room for our 4 friends who decided to join us for dinner. Having read reviews that said we would be able to ask for help in planning our walks we were well briefed by Andrew and supplied with a map, printed directions and a compass. We had given him a rough idea of how far we wanted to walk and the level of difficulty and he gauged it perfectly.
The hotel is charming and beautifully presented. Without exception the staff are all extremely pleasant and helpful. The food was delicious and Louise and her staff were able to accomodate all our requests. We walk as a group once a year and this was undoubtedly our best find to date. Superb weekend.

Excellent location on Exmoor for a walking weekend. Well appointed rooms, good food and helpful, friendly staff. They will suggest and help to plan routes for walking and provide maps and packed lunches if required. Food was freshly prepared, well presented and the inclusive price for dinner, bed and breakfast was very reasonable.
Great value for money and a very enjoyable weekend would definitely recommend it.

My husband & I have just returned from a weekend here to celebrate both of our birthdays. We have stayed here several times & keep returning because it is such a relaxing & unspoilt place to stay. The staff are all friendly & helpful. I cannot eat gluten or dairy but this is never a problem as the food is all cooked freshly. Usually the person who takes the dinner order asks which dish on the menu I fancy & then consults with the chef to see what choices he can offer. One member of staff is a coeliac so they really understand the importance of a gluten free diet. We have already booked our next trip.

Great setting; charming staff and excellent facilities. Ideal setting to explore north Somerset and and Devon not forgetting the delights of Exmoor itself. Food of a high standard and very clean bedrooms. Will be staying again soon.

Room Tip: Go for the superior room to add space and extra comfort.

We have recently returned from a wonderfully relaxing break at the hotel. What a great place and the food is excellent along with the staff who always have time to chat and make you feel at home. The log fires and character of the hotel make it a charming place to stay. Would thoroughly recommend it to anyone who wants a warm relaxing atmosphere and will definitely be returning again as soon as we can!

I've stayed here at least 20 times in the last 7 years and cannot recommend this hotel more highly!
Andrew and Louise are so hospitable.... It's like staying with really close friends. From the moment u arrive when they carry yr luggage and guns inside to the moment u leave they are both exceptionally friendly!!
The rooms are always absolutely spotless and very comfortable.
It's always an amazing treat to come down to a roaring open fire in this often wet and chilly part of the country!!
Having had the misfortune of being treated SO badly by the horrific new management(see post that they finally allowed) at High Bullen this is a true gem.
HB management who appear in complete denial should ask themselves why you have such a high T A rating
In summary this is a wonderland spot to stay for shooting parties and I cannot thank the first class service and attention to detail!!
I'm already booked to stay 3 nights next shooting season with groups of existing highly appreciative and highly travelled guests
Good on you both
Looking forward to seeing you both in December!!
Very best Charles Gow
Also for NO extra charge(!!!) dogs are most welcome....
