“Thankyou Sam and Huw, a truly wonderful experience”
Reviewed June 18, 2011

Thanks Sam and Huw for an unforgetable stay. Nothing was amiss, the food, the ambience, the surroundings, the service, and the hosts ! We stayed in Watersmeet, a really delightful room, the bed was heaven, the bathroom too. Our whole experience was more than " 5 star ". Our tastebuds were dazzled every morning and evening, from start to finish. Huw is very skilled in the kitchen, and we came home a few pounds heavier than when we arrived. The cellar had/has some very interesting wines, and just had to be sampled, although no Pinot Grigio when we left, we had consumed the stock ! Thanks to for the chocolate fix that I was allowed each evening. We both look forward to our next visit, it will feel like visiting friends, a big thank you to you both for making our stay so enjoyable.

Warm welcome when we arrived in the evening having sailed back from Lundy Island.
Our room The Vinery was cosy and the bed was extremely comfortable. Bathroom was spacious and functional although you had to turn the taps on a long way before the water came out !
Lovely view over the garden which we never explored due to rain and more rain !
Wonderful and quiet location yet within easy reach of Lynton and Combe Martin etc.
Excellent food and a good wine list - attentive service and very comfortable lounges and conservatory. Nothing was too much trouble. Enjoyed our stay and would recommend the hotel unreservedly.

The Old Rectory is everything you want your hotel to be. Small, intimate, excellent service, superb food, beautiful rooms and a stunning location.

Sam & Huw make you welcome from the minute you arrive, mingling with the quests, but not being obtrusive. You only ask for something once and it is remembered.

The feeling is more of a friends country house party than a hotel. Sam & Huw deserve to succeed they are passionate about what they do.

Many thanks for a wonderful 4 days,we will see you again.

we have just spent 3 fantastic nights at this wonderful hotel. The staff were lovely and the food was out of this world, nothing was too much trouble. Our room was beautiful and one of the best nights sleep ever had in a hotel, comfy bed etc. I would recommend this hotel to anyone and we look forward to visiting again.

One of the best run hotels I have ever stayed at. Huw and Sam are the perfect hosts. Food was good and just the right style that you could eat it every night without feeling it was too much. The garden is a lovely quiet place to relax. Access to the fantastic coastal walk is a few minutes away by foot. A secluded gem.

Stayed here for 2 nights to celebrate a special birthday. I can't praise it enough. The accomodation is stylish, comfortable and has all you need. The rooms are beautifully decorated and there are lovely public areas, including a conservatory heavy with grape vines, to sit and relax in. The gardens were looking beautiful and a pleasure to walk round. Dinner is served to all guests at the same time so, while you order and wait you get to meet and chat with other guests which was really nice. Huw and Sam do all they can to make uou feel really welcome.

The surrounding area is beautiful and has some lovely walks. We didn't have enough time to enjoy everything there is so plan to visit again as soon as we can!
