what can i say...disappointing is an understatement. the menu looked so good and the people all seemed very friendly we had walked a long way and popped in for a drink, although it said dogs welcome really you can only sit outside with your dog especially if its a large one due to the cramped nature of the place. even though it appears spacious enough we were only offered a tiny table near the door so opted for outside as the weather wasnt to bad and there is a rain cover. we were pleased to see lobster on the menu being so close to the sea we expected this to be fantastic....it wasnt. the starter came out stone cold (soup) then when the miserable faced waitress finally decided to bring out our dinner which was also cold it was a pathetic excuse for a lobster. terrible service followed when we ordered the dogs a meal...saus and mash...(they always eat with us)...after waiting over 3/4hr the miserable waitress informed us there were no sausages so we asked for the meat part of the burger in its place..we had paid for a full meal and received a burger pate on a slapped on a plate...when asked about the mash this was dolloped school dinner style in a bowl and dumped on the table...now i know it was for the dogs but its not the point..they didnt know that. a dissapointing place with awful service. and when we complained another customer joined in to say they had a similar experience. half the bill was refunded . really shouldnt of paid for any of it...it was truely awful. wont be going there again.

The food here is very good. Unfortunately my partner and I ended up thinking that they just had a sandwiches menu as when you come in the only menus that are clearly on display are the light bites (toasted sandwich , jacket potato etc). These were very good but we would have enjoyed ourselves much more if we had seen the full menu. This did not occur unto our return from the bathroom.

We love visiting this area of coastal Exmoor and this is just the spot for a delicious cream tea after a walk down to Heddon's Mouth cove. The scones are delicious and on a lovely sunny day (whatever they were!), what could be better than sitting outside with a cream tea and a nice pot of tea.

After a nice walk to woody bay we were looking forward to a nice lunch at the hunter's inn. Sadly we were very disappointed. Firstly, by the barman who gave the impression that our custom was really an inconvenience. Secondly by the food. My wife's battered fish tasted very plain and secreted a mysterious and offputting orange goo. I suspect it was a frozen packet job....the chips and peas certainly were, and they tasted cheap. I don't mind paying £10 for a pub main course but the quality here was just not good enough. With hindsight we probably should have sent the fish back, but I had already attempted to take back a glass of lemonade because the syrup had gone, but was told it was supposed to be like that - low sugar! - so chose to avoid another conversation with Mr Unfriendly.

I should balance the above by mentioning that my burger tasted ok. But no better than that.

We liked it all. Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner. The cooked breakfast was superb and we also had very nice smoked salmon. Dinner for me was duck one night and then a very tasty chicken and leek pie. The triple cooked chips were great too. (I think thats what they were) but very good.
