“An Oasis of charm”
Reviewed February 3, 2013

This weekend (1 - 3/2/13) my group of friends and I had a dinner at the The Exmoor White Horse Inn.
It was a planned visit and the meal was taken in the bar rather than in the hotel restaurant. We have visited the hotel previously and were looking forward to the visit. We were not disappointed at all.
The staff were attentive and caring. The food was ample, flavourful and well presented; and the beer was very good indeed.

“Standard pub grub, overpriced.”
Reviewed January 30, 2013

Went for a drive around Exmoor village and the pub looked lovely from the outside so we decided to have lunch out of the rain. Inside was typical pub style, with log fire, but for some odd reason benches and tables for diners to sit at. There was very little atmosphere, no music playing. The menu was typical pub grub, sandwiches, jacket potatoes, pies etc, but was overpriced. I ordered a baguette and chips and the cost was over £10. £3.35 for a side dish of cheesy chips was rather ridiculous, and even if you preferred just chips without the cheese that was £2.30. I never mind paying a little extra for something a little special, but there is nothing particularly special about a baguette and chips and it did not warrant the price.
Friendly enough bar staff but won't be going back.

We were saddened to read your review, especially when you read other reviews either side of yours. We are a traditional pub offering traditional, value for money food and drinks. You talk about the cost of the Baguette so we can only presume you had the Prawn version, as most of the others average around £5 - £6, all of which we consider to be excellent value for money, as is the rest of our Menu selection, especially when you take into account the size of the meal that you get. Criticism of value for money is something that we rarely receive. With regards to the furnishings in the bar, as previously stated we are a traditional 16th century inn and the furnishings reflect that.

We dislike the thought of anyone leaving here disatisfied in any way. Maybe revisiting us in the sunshine might make you see us in a different light.

“Very nice Inn”
Reviewed January 23, 2013

We visit the Exmoor White Horse Inn whenever we are in the area, which is usually 2 or 3 times a year. We usually visit for a lunchtime bar meal and base the review on our experience of that. The building is very pleasing on the eye and the bar and toilets are always clean, the service is friendly and the welcome is warm. It can get busy and the bar area is not that big, but we take every opportunity we can to sit out in the garden by the river, which is so relaxing ! A wonderful stop in the heart of Exmoor and not far from Tarr Steps, or if taking a scenic drive over Dunkery Beacon.

Had two evening meals during our stay at the hotel. Very good quality food and warm friendly service. Not the cheapest but worth it.

Thank you so much for taking the time to leave your review, it really is most appreciated. Traditional homecooked food is something that Chef prides himself on, and pies made with locally sourced venison are definitely one of his specialities! We hope to welcome you back again soon.
