Sandaway Beach Holiday Park
Reviewed July 21, 2013

we have just returned from a week at sandaway beach holiday park. Coming away from such a beautiful place was disheartening. It was stunning from the minute we arrived till the minute we vacated the site, which was more than enough for our needs. Our caravan was immaculate, food was delicious, great portion size and excellent value for money. The chef was more than accommodating for our needs as a family. All members of staff were friendly and happy to help at all times, from the ladies in the shop, pool attendants to the bar staff. Every night was a fantastic night in the clubhouse. For the children as well as adults, Gareth and his team put an amazing show on for the whole family. our children loved the foxy club, as us adults enjoyed the evening entertainment performances by Gareth and Mark, both have amazing talent and have great ability to entertain the crowd. I would highly recommend this destination to any family looking for a great holiday in a beautiful surrounding. There are also lots of great days out within a 20 minute drive. My family and I thoroughly enjoyed our week here and could have stayed longer. Looking forward to returning to sandaway in the near future.

Room Tip: would recommend a silver or gold booking as this provides a sea view.

We were booked into a silver 8 berth caravan which was clean and reasonably well maintained. The site has a large grassed area, outdoor and indoor play areas and pool all well looked after and suitable for young children. The on site shop is well stocked with your essentials. All the staff we encountered were very polite and friendly but a true star is the gentleman that runs the Chefs Corner, having a very fussy eater 7yr old is normally a nightmare but on at least 2 occasions he put a dinner together for her that wasn't on the menu (he offered, we didn't even have to ask). The food was delicious and is freshly cooked while you wait. Combe Martin itself is only a short walk down the hill but be warned that the hill isn't so kind on the way back up! The highlight of the holiday was looking out to sea and seeing a dolphin! Would stop at Sandaway again and would recommend to others.

We stayed in a gold caravan and had the most amazing view of the sea and the hangman cliffs. The caravan ad everything we needed, was spotlessly clean and had the best shower I have ever used. We were able to watch local fisherman out to sea and a dolphin from our window. How perfect is that. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff and everyone had smiles which is always a great sign. The only down side was the pool was only open for short hours a day. We would have loved to have a swim before ten am and after 5pm as it was such great weather. We did the ilfracombe princess boat trips so worth the money

Room Tip: Go for gold

Came for the week and really enjoyed it! Awesome beach and stunning views of the sea, cliffs and beautiful sunsets! Very wildlife friendly too. Really enjoyed the entertainment in the evenings, had a good range of different stuff, we really liked Mark who did the rock and roll set, very good! The staff we're easy going, polite and friendly. The pool was awesome too! The only down side was the shower curtain pole was hanging off by one screw but other than that, the accommodation was good for what we needed. But all in all, we all really enjoyed our time and looking forward to going back later in the summer!

We have just returned from a 4 night stay at Sandaway Beach. The first thing you notice on arrival is the absolutely stunning view of the coast and Exmoor. It’s a nice little park with plenty of places to explore in the surrounding area. Combe Martin is quarter of a mile down the hill with lovely beaches and rock pools to explore. We also visited Valley of the Rocks and Woolacombe both within easy reach.

We were very lucky to have a cracking week weather wise. We would get home at the end of each day and get in the outdoor pool which was heated to 30 degrees. Stand up out of the pool and look at the amazing view of the ocean. A Lovely way to end the day and beautiful sunsets.

We had a meal from Chef's Corner and it was delicious, plentiful and good value for money. The shop was very handy. It had most basics and some gifts etc and wasn't overpriced.

There are lots of things to do in the area. There is a wildlife park and Exmoor Zoo isn’t far either. Watermouth Castle is also only a short drive too. If you have the weather that we had, you really can’t beat this stunning part of the country.

On the accommodation; we stayed in a Gold caravan that was meant to sleep 6. I personally wouldn't be comfortable with 5 other adults in this caravan. It wasn't as big as some Golds we've stayed at with other holiday companies. 2 adults and 2 children I would say would be the max in my opinion. One double bedroom and one twin. It also had a pull out sofa bed in the living room if you really wanted to cram 6 people in. It wasn't up to the usual standard we've come to expect from a Gold at other parks. Rusty radiator and twisted broken blind in the bathroom to name a couple of things. Also, the touring field is next to where we were and we stepped out the door to someone in a tent next to us, which seems a minor grumble, but something we didn't expect and weren't too impressed with. In the school holidays it would be quite noisy when full. We didn't have a sea view from our van, but we did have a lovely view of Exmoor. From what I've experienced in many stays with other companies, I would class our accommodation more as a Silver than a Gold. It was however, very clean and everything worked.

We didn't use the clubhouse facilities as we like to stay at our van of an evening, so I can’t comment on the entertainment. We didn't visit the private beach either as we loved Combe Martin so much we went there instead.

I would give this if 5 if the caravan came up to what I consider to be Gold standard, but I felt the £300 price tag was a little steep for what we got (apparently discounted from £500!). Having said that, I wouldn't stay in anything less than Gold. I saw a Silver and it was quite old and tired.

So, it gets a 4 from me overall. I had a wonderful time and I will be back.

Room Tip: Search for a good deal. Go for Gold and ask for a Caravan with a sea view. This will take you away f...

Stayed here on a 4 day break through a newspaper promo.
The bronze caravan was, as expected, well used but perfectly adequate and equipped for what we needed.
The view from the caravan was stunning and the private beach was beautiful, well worth the trip up and down the fairly steep steps.
Didn't use the facilities on site but the pool looked inviting and all staff were friendly and efficient. Some lovely walks from the park along the coastal path especially the one down to Watermouth Cove.
A beautiful part of the country, we will definitely return to this park in the near future.
