All the comments of my previous reviews of the "Poplars" remain valid. Your hosts, Jean and Cliff are consistently excellent in all aspects of the business of looking after you, thus ensuring you have a good time, and leave with fond memories that linger. Each visit finds further improvements to the hotel having been made or in progress. Staying at the "Polars" relieves one of the trails and tribulations of every day life. Thank you Jean and Cliff. Long may you reign.

We have been staying at the Poplars Hotel since 1996 and we always have a truly fantastic time. We enjoy the comfort of our room, the wonderful breakfasts...and evening meals, and above all the warm and friendly welcome we always receive from Cliff and Jean. We always enjoy our stay and share a lot of laughter and fun with Cliff and Jean.

Room Tip: We recommend the rooms with a balcony - its so relaxing sitting out and looking at the wonderful vie...

The one thing that strikes a visitor to this hotel, is the keenest of Jean & Cliff ,the owners, to do the very best they can to make your stay very comfortable and happy. Directly you enter the hotel for the first time on holiday they make you tea or coffee...a lovely welcome.
If you want fun in the evenings, Cliff the owner is a great host, with all sorts of ideas, food is good and bedrooms en suite very comfortable, there are sea views if available...nice outdoor pool so generally the place gives you a lovely holiday....we have been many a time..Plus of course the area has oustanding beauty

This was our fifth stay at the Poplars Hotel in beautiful Coombe Martin and, having spent our Christmas cooking and looking after our extended family, we had decided to treat ourselves to the New Year extravaganza with Cliff and Jean. We were joined by our cousins who had not stayed at the Poplars previously. It is always a little daunting when you recommend something but we need not have worried - they absolutely loved everything about their stay. From the welcoming Devon Cream Team on arrival on Friday to our breakfast on 2nd January the whole New Year weekend was delicious. Jean serves homemade food beautifully prepared, cooked and presented. We wanted for nothing. We enjoyed candlelit dinners and sumptuous buffets wih hot and cold selections. Our rooms were so cosy and comfortable and spotlessly clean. We spent our evenings in Cliff's bar - which had the most beautifully decorated Christmas tree twinkling in the corner. Bar prices are very good value! The New Year party was great fun with the option of dressing up in a selection of theatrical costumes from Pandora's Box. Cliff has a wicked sense of fun; he is also a very talented musician and great story teller. The lovely thing is you can join in as much or as little as you wish - the atmosphere is so relaxed. We hope to return to visit Jean and Cliff in the summer but have already reserved our places for next New Year. Thank you, Jean and Cliff, for your kind hospitality - when we stay with you it is more like visiting friends than booking into an hotel - how many establishments can boast such a reputation? See you soon ...

From the minute we arrived for our first stay, to our very regretful departure 3 days later we had what can only be described as a totally unique experience, and one to be repeated as often as possible!

Run by Cliff Jeffries and his supercook wife Jean, it gave us spanking clean, warm and well appointed rooms, Christmas meals to die for, sparkling entertainment in a very personal 'Cliff' style, and wonderful company.

We came home with sides aching from laughter and tummies full to bursting. All this and Santa too, We thoroughly loved The Poplars and look forward to going back.

Caro and Len

Room Tip: Our balcony room had a view of sea and countryside.

We've been visiting Jean and Cliff ever since they took over at Poplars. This is our 17th year with them, we come back three or four times a year - they're perfect hosts, and great friends. Friendly atmosphere, food is excellent and the entertainment is first class. The only place to go in the West Country. Can't speak too highly about Jean and Cliff and Poplars!

Discovered this gem in 2003 and have returned every year since. The hotel is situated a short walk from the beach and is ideally situated for exploring Noth Devon. Cliff and Jean are the ideal hosts. From your first visit you are made to feel very welcome and are treated like old friends (which we now are). The atmosphere is such that it is the ideal place to make new friends. Jean's cooking is superb and there is a varied menu. You will not find better meals anywhere. The bar is well stocked and with Cliff's entertaiment you are ensured a fun filled evening. The rooms are very comfortable and have been updated to an excellent standard.
