Having enjoyed superb food at the Anchorstone for many years I was a guest last week on the Anchorstone picnic boat. There really are not enough superlatives to describe the experience. Jasmine was a great hostess, the food, both choice and quality, was faultless. A fantastic afternoon. Thank you

We've been coming to Devon each year for the Dartington Festival and the one trip we ALWAYS make is to the Anchor Stone Cafe. This year we kayaked to Dittisham from Stoke Gabriel - a beautiful trip rounded off by a simply fantastic meal. Over the years we've sampled the menu widely and it is delicious from first to last. This year the lobster was particularly good, as was the hazelnut brownie! Simply one of the best places to sit back and enjoy a leisurely lunch.

Timing tip: the cafe only takes reservations bang on 12. If you want a good table but don't want to come that early aim for about 13:50. The first round of tables are almost always getting up right about 2pm!

If you love your seafood, you'll love this place. Drive along a windy one lane road, with stopping places, then you need to park and walk down the narrow street, passing the pretty cottages down to the sea front. The pub on your left, and this Cafe on your right. Right on the waterfront, with fabulous views. You think a quiet village of Dittisham, but then you will find everyone is in the cafe. You can watch the boats travel the river, (Greenway is opposite bank). A chalked menu board with locally sourced seafood, freshly cooked and served. Packed out when we went, obviously very popular! Great food, but not cheap.

We went to the Anchor Stone cafe to celebrate my husband's birthday. The location is beautiful, the staff are very friendly and helpful, but the food is amazing! We had a giant crab salad between three of us, and we all agreed we had never eaten crab like it (in fact we had never even seen one so big!). We had some good meals in our few days in Devon, but the crab was the highlight. We finished the meal with selection of cakes, all of which were great too. It is worth booking if you can; it was already fully booked when we phoned the morning we wanted to visit, but we were advised to turn up at about 1 30 when the earlier booking would be leaving, which worked well, as it was getting a bit quieter then.

Get there early - difficult to book; watch the tide/wind if going by boat (the best way!) Service is great and there is a pub bang opposite if you're early. Kids will enjoy it 'cos you can bribe them with opportunity to go crabbing afterwards -if they behave!
