Came here via boat from Dartmouth, with some friends. Wonderful location looking out over the river and a short walk from the Jetty.

Had an amazing atmosphere inside, quite small, but full of character and friendly staff. Excellent selection of local ales inside - always good to see.

Only slight let down was the food we ordered - the roast beef and horseradish sandwich was out of stock a pond the prawn I had instead was rather bland.

Still, would very much recommend this place - though shame there isn't more decent space for seating outside!

A proper traditional pub in a great setting. My husband and I visited twice for lunch on 2 separate
occasions. The beer was good and we enjoyed the lunch we had. However we noticed that most of the tables appeared to be booked with little slates with chalked names and times. The first time we visited we would have liked to have sat in the window seat but saw that it was booked for 1.15 pm. We were interested to see that nobody actually turned up at this table but a few people had sat down and downed food and drink very quickly and then moved on. On the same day we heard the bar man say to another couple who wanted to order food but had no table and were surrounded by booked tables that they could sit at one as the booker had telephoned to say they would be half an hour late. Nothing unusual in that or so we thought.
The next time we went in was on a Sunday lunchtime and the place was manic. We wanted to have a proper sit down lunch but all tables were full apart from 4 booked ones. We ended up just ordering sandwiches with the intention of perhaps going outside and perched on a tiny table. The large table behind us was booked for Tullock at 1.30 pm and it was already 1.15 pm. The bar man as soon as we had ordered food told us to sit at this large table as he said the bookers had rung up to say that they would not be arriving until 2 pm. The table next to us was booked for 1.30 pm to Wilcox which the bar man said would be a party of 5 however shortly after we had sat down another couple came with their young daughter and sat down ignoring the sign. They soon ordered food and the bar staff let them sit there and no other party arrived. By this time we were suspicious and decided to order a dessert to take us beyond the allotted time of 2 pm. The puddings were expensive for what they were and, guess what, no Tullocks arrived. We were still sat there at 2.15 pm! On close examination the booking boards looked pretty permanent. My advise would be to sit down and announce that you are the person on the board! It looks like they think this is a good way to get a quick turn round and profit but I for one do not like to be conned.

Lovely setting and friendly bar-staff! Beers well kept and a good choice of non-alcoholic drinks too.

This is good old pub. Everything as described on their website. If you're eating in the evening you need to book...ask for the 'window table' so you can take in the views. The Otter Amber and Moules Mariniere delicious. Definitly wortha visit Iif you're in the area.
