Description: Here at The Ugly Duckling Restaurant, we pride ourselves on the high standards of our mainly British cuisine and the friendliness of our personal service. Our speciality is our daily carvery, served from 12.00 noon, which also includes our home cooked "Dish of the Day", and on Sundays we have our famous "Four Meat Carvery". The Carvery is in addition to our comprehensive, all day menu. We are open from 8.00am daily,(10.00 on Sundays)for fine coffees, to drink in or takeaway, and traditional breakfasts. We currently open every day except Mondays, and on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays through to 7.00pm. We are fully licensed and stock some excellent wines. Look out for our special evenings which include a French night to welcome the Beaujolais Nouveau in November and Burns Night in January. We look forward to seeing you, but you are strongly advised to book if you are coming for lunch.

Had an overcooked jacket potato which they did acknowledge and knocked something off the bill. Will however give another try.

They always keep their standards with the food, excellent value and the carvery is very tasty, just like you would do at home, They have a delivery service which is second to none, a valuable service to the community.

We were visiting in Ottery St Mary, and as it was a nice day, though we would have a trip to the seaside. We had never been to Dawlish, so decided to drive down here. Went in to the Ugly Duckling, next to the park, for an excellent cup of fresh coffee. We were so impressed we decided to return for lunch. when we were advised to book, we were surprised, but upon our return, could see why. It was very busy, even on a Thursday! The carvery was excellent, the service friendly and the bill was most reasonable. We will return!

Well, looks like the review net has caught not-so-much a duckling ... more a little swan! We too found this great little restaurant on a day-trip to Dawlish ... it was the great smells of good, fresh cooking which attracted us. Inside is a comfortable, friendly little place (yes, sorry, space is a wee bit limited but DON'T let that put you off) with friendly and helpful staff. The food is traditional (and modern, too) and very tasty ... we both had the carvery, and thoroughly enjoyed same. A traditional English pudding (treacle sponge with ice-cream) followed. What more could one ask? Regrettably, this little restaurant is only open from c11.00am to 3.00pm (that may be out-of-season hours, I didn't confirm, sorry), but if you can make it, you will not regret the visit. And the prices will not break the bank either. Go for it!
