Hi before I start I'm not exactly sureof the year we visited here - it could of been '07. We treat ourselves to this holiday thinking it looked extra special. The Hotel looked very well kept when we got there ie nice carpet, furniture etc and seemed well set up with nice dining room, comfi. sitting rooms for after dinner drinks etc, small childrens play room, table tennis, pool and a room and larger night club type place where they did childrens entertainment - which was really really good. Our problems started when our neighbouring couple decided to row throughout the night, swearing (f word) and sounding like they were about to have a fight and keeping us awake through the seemingly thin walls.. I asked the helpful porter for help and he came and asked them to turn the TV down. So they weren't so bad. Then it happened again the next night and with child who didn't sleep well with bad eczema it was no joke. It sounded like again they were swearing etc at each other and then the 'bonking' sound started .............. er thin walls? It was like they were up all night and asleep all day. I was later told that even the cleaners had had problems with them not letting them in to do the room during the daytime. On our last night we were moved room. My husband started with a tummy upset on about day 3. Then my daughter threw up heavily twice - then I came down with the tummy upset. Then we heard other customers had come down with the tummy upset. So we weren't even able to eat the food. So to be honest it could of been a nice holiday without the neighbours and the tummy upset but that took over all our memories of it. We did tell the hotel who didn't offer any compensation - so we would never go back.

Great hotel in fab location.

The hotel has lots of amenities; tennis, table tennis, full size snooker table, indoor pool, gym and lots of space to relax. It has a fantastic grounds with sun loungers and outdoor pool.

Hotel staff were friendly and room was a good size and comfortable.

We stayed Dinner B & B, which we felt was good value for money.

Would definitely stay again.

Desperate to get away for a weekend, we just took a punt on this hotel without much information. It's quite expensive but we had an excellent stay and the place was well matched to our requirements. It's a big place, close to the beach and has a large car-park. The room was a good size and well appointed, and the standard of decor is nice throughout the hotel. We didn't try the restaurant so we're unable to comment (interestingly, you can get sandwiches throughout the night from the small cafe bar in reception!).
It's probably nit-picking but we reckoned that no-one had looked under the bed with a vacuum for a good few months (room 34 if you're reading this, chaps) but certainly the bathroom was very clean. The bed was smallish and "boingy" but it wasn't a big problem. Oh, and the main railway line is close by which means it can be noisy with a window open (we didn't realise at first, that our room actually had an air-conditioning unit). Summing up then........ Yes, fine!. I hope we are able to visit again some time

Everything was super, the kids loved this hotel! we loved the food and locaton and the history dotted around this family run hotel since the 40's wow, the kids loved the indoor and outdoor pools, the park and the play room. We spoke with guests who had stayed year after year some over 30 years! what does that say?
Would stay here again, thankyou

We read reviews of others before staying at this family run hotel and sometimes you wonder where they stayed! One said avoid the hotel when there is a wedding - rubbish. We were there when there was a big wedding on and there was no disturbance to the normal well ordered routine.
Food - Excellent, different menu each night, good portions, Starters 4 choices, mains had 4 varied hot choices plus cold meats, salads and a sweet trolley to die for, followed by cheese and biscuits. Then you can take your coffee/tea/hot chocolate in the lounge if you choose to. Self service or waitress - you choose. Cotton table linen, fresh flowers. My wife is dairy intolerant and was well catered for as the chef said he would be happy to anything we asked for, however slight adaptations to the menu was all we needed.
The bedrooms were fine, we had a double with sea view and balcony. It was tastefully decorated and clean. The was of course a daily maid service. The shower over the bath was a bit slow and could get very hot if you were not careful. The public rooms in the hotel were warm spacious and nicely decorated. The indoor pool was good and heated. The changing rooms were very clean and well looked after. The outside of the hotel was being discretely worked on, the extension was just finished and looked really good and modern. A coat of paint is probably their next step? Location, location - a short walk across the gardens puts you on the higher coastal path to Dawlish, we crossed the railway bridge for the sea front walk. Overall we had an excellent break largely due to the staff and owners of this hotel.

We have just returned from a 5 day break at the Langstone Cliff hotel.
We decided to be eco-friendly and took the train to Dawlish from Birmingham..A pick up was arranged at the Station but as we ended up in a different place to the driver we were rebuked when he found us.Not the best of starts!

An extension to the front of the hotel was in the final throws of completion with builders constructing a fountain.Usually this would of annoyed us with the noise etc however the Hotel did warn us in advance by letter. The work was completed on Friday as a family wedding was taking place.(more of that later...)

Our room was quite small but clean. The Bathroom fittings were dated and the Shower dangerous as only a small adjustment of the temperature lever sent the water from tepid to scalding very quickly. The TV failed and we lost reception/signal.This was attended to by Reception only for the fault to return the next day.We found the signal cable secured by tape which had become unstuck behind our son's bed.

On a plus side we found the food excellent with a varied selection and the desert trolley to die for!The Catering/Bar/Restaurant Staff were friendly and the service well above average.

Per previous comments the Hotel is Dog friendly. Our son was almost up ended by an Alsatian which came hurtling in from outside.

Our biggest gripe came on departure. We requested a lift to the Railway Station only to find a taxi pitch up.A Hotel Family Wedding was in full swing and I assumed the taxi tab was to be picked up by the Hotel. How wrong I was. After forking out a rip off £6.00 for a journey of less than a mile I phoned the Hotel to request to speak to the Manager.Sadly he was at the Wedding and was not to be disturbed. The Hotel claimed that they had instructed the taxi to bill them.We are still waiting for a response.
Word of warning-do not stay if there is a Wedding booked!!!!
