“Memorable birthday at the Langstone”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 31, 2013

For a holiday stay, a function or a special occasion the Langstone would be a good safe choice for anyone to make. The staff are friendly and customer focused giving you personal attention without is seeming to be a chore. The food is good, and in the event there is a problem it is resolved immediately. The location is good with easy access to the beach, local train station and Dawlish a mile or so down the road and the hotel parking is more than sufficient ,even when busy. Having had occasion to attend a small private party last week a better venue could not have been selected. The pools and other facilities were more than adequate for our needs and all the party guests were most complimentary of the hotel in general.

Booked a late 3-night break here and was not disappointed. Staff very friendly and everywhere was clean. The bonus is that they are pet friendly-just let them know when booking. They are children friendly as well. Would not hesitate to recommend this hotel and hope to go back. It also has an indoor pool, outdoor pool and paddling pool. The outdoor pools are enclosed - but with railings - in order to stop small children falling in.

Room Tip: As we booked last minute we weren't fussy. Although our room was over the reception area and fa...

Another lovely stay. safe environment for the children with lots for them to do. Easy to ditch the car for a week with a short walk to the beach and slightly longer coastal walk to Dawlish. Handy train station within walking distance of the hotel. Staff can't do enough to help

We booked a family suite which had a separate single bedroom to allow us to put our 2 year old to bed a little earlier. She was particularly entertained by the feet of the seagulls which liked to perch on the skylight in the bathroom!

We stayed half-board - the evening meal has a starter served at the table and main meal from the carvery, but this also included fish and curries or veggie options, and had enough variety for us for a week. Being a carvery meant that dinner could go at a pace to suit you. There was some sort of family entertainment every evening, though mostly more suitable for slightly older children (perhaps 4-12 year olds).

The hotel has outside and indoor (warm too) pools which we used most days. In the grounds they also have a large wooden climbing frame/slides as well as a Little Tikes plastic one - both of which our little one enjoyed playing on a lot. They also have an indoor soft play room with lots of toys.

All, bar none, of the staff we met were mostly young and local, very friendly and seemed genuinely keen to help.

The hotel looks quite old fashioned and a bit drab from the outside but if you're looking for a traditional seaside holiday, especially with a young family, I think this hotel is hard to beat. I expect we will return another year.

We thiught we had booked a suite (as last year- children in separate room) but it turned out that using booking.com we got a family room (all in one room). The hotel sorted this out as best they could, but we lost the family suite for 2 nights (we came with 2 children) and it cost us more than booking direct. Hotel staff very helpful, and accommodating on meal prices as a result.
The hotel is very family friendly, but the family room (as opposed to the suite) was very cramped for more than one night. It is also hot, and surprisingly airless for somewhere so close to the sea. That said, would book again - a suite for all round convenience. Two grandparents and and found their rooms very comfortable.

Our advice - book direct by phone with the hotel.

Me and my family have been to this hotel for 4 years in a row. It is in a lovely location, by the train station, seaside and small woods. The evening and breakfast meals are good quality, with lots to choose from. Pool table, table tennis and tennis is available. Also the staff are friendly.

Personally I think staying for a week is too long without going on trips. There are things to do at the hotel but not many; other towns closeby are better than dawlish also. Travel to exeter or newton abbot for shopping, many kids days out nearby or zoos. Look in the leaflet corridor.

Recently the dessert trolley has been removed, making the meals substantially smaller but better presented. We might not go back next year - try somewhere else for a change but we have enjoyed our stays.
