Great location on the seafront, very well kept ale (Otter) and an enjoyable end to a good day, just that it could be a really freindly welcoming place to go, but isn't (at least out of season) - just a locals' haunt. My own view on the day I went of course, but I didn't feel particularly welcome; probably better if you live in Dawlish.

Room Tip: If you get the right weather, forget what is inside and get out on the terrace - makes it worth a vi...

Stopped in on a rainy afternoon. We chose thde marine tavern as it is right opposite the tracks and our son loves to atch the trains go by. Worried a little about the tiny family room but the staff were very friendly and the pasties were amazing. We would definately stop in again.

My wife and I had a snack at the Marine Tavern which consisted of a Pork pie and chutney.
The hand raised crust of the pork pie could have been made at Dawlish Pottery and the filling was mainly rusk with a hint of pork. Maybe we went on a bad day but I have rarely had worse. I would normally have complained but the staff were not very communicative and being on holiday I did not want to spoil my day in a lovely place like Dawlish. I am surprised at the glowing reports from some of your contributors. We did not stay in the hotel so cannot comment on cleanliness faciliies etc.

Good honest pub food and helpful staff . my partner is a ceoliac and the staff were very thorough when checking the ingredients . Local beers and ciders were available as well as teas and coffees. I would stop here again for a meal .

Having recently stayed in the front family room at the Marine Tavern, we enjoyed the stunning view of the sea and landscape from the bedroom window. Our room was spacious and clean and coupled with this we found the staff and managers to be friendly, accommodating and excellent with children which created a great atmosphere. Our 4 year old son especially enjoyed watching the trains go by outside our window, which by the way did not disturb a good night’s sleep which was had by all.
Also we must add that we were not disturbed at any point during our stay by being over a bar, in fact the atmosphere in there was always excellent and very family friendly.
The breakfast menu caters for all, but for me the full English breakfast was delicious and plentiful.
We also had the pleasure of having an excellent evening meal during our stay, and this did not disappoint either. We would highly recommend this B&B and very much look forward to our next visit.
From very grateful and happy guests, Mr & Mrs Wolverson and Nathaniel

Room Tip: Our son loved th bunk beds in room 3 and we all loved the view of the sea from there.

The Marine Tavern (pub plus B & B) is right across from the beach at Dawlish, and only 2 minutes walk from the train station (which is also right by the beach) so it's ideal if you are coming by train. The pub itself is good, with real ales, and a good food menu running through the day. They have 4 rooms above for B & B, two of which have direct sea views and two don't, so book ahead to get a sea view room - definitely recommended!

Train Spotters will like this also, as the railway runs beside the promenade, so the sea view rooms also overlook the railway, (it's like having a big train set in your garden!). That said, if you are going to be annoyed by the sound of trains going past a couple of times an hour, then this may not be the place for you, but we found it an added attraction, and loved it.

We've stayed here several times now, and have always found the rooms to be clean, tidy, and the staff very friendly and helpful. There's free wi-fi for guests too. Towels were changed daily, and the tea & coffee tray always well stocked (biscuits too!). The breakfasts are very good, tea/coffee, fruit juice, cereal, a variety of cooked choices including full english (we're vegetarian though, so we had everything except the meat), plus toast. If it's sunny, you can sit out on the tables outside for breakfast.

The Tavern is a popular pub, but it's not a 'rowdy' place, and we've never been disturbed by any noise from the bar. The rates are very reasonable (I hope they don't go up because of this review..!!), and we find it a much nicer place to stay than larger hotels. We will definitely be back!

Room Tip: Book ahead to get a sea view room - this also means a railway line view!
