An Outstanding Entertainment Team, making each individual very welcome. A friendly atmosphere, the food is lovely and good value. We have just returned for our fourth visit and we travel from Newcastle which is at least a 6 hour journey but well worth the travel. And are booking for 2010.

This has not been our first stay at Golden Sands. it is in fact our twelth year of holidays there. Yes, the accomodation is average for a holiday park but when there is such beutiful scenery and so much to do in glorious Devon ..why stay inside ?? Even if it rains, there are lots of options for trips. On the evenings we spend our time in the showbar watching the FABULOUS shows put on by the AMAZING entertainments team. All the team members work extremely hard and go out of their way to make everyone feel valued as holiday makers and welcome. They are always smiling and professional in all they do. and VERY TALENTED!!! Paul, Becky, Mark, Jay, Richie,Sam and Laura ALL light up the stage with their performance skills and every show is a delight.. They are all great at Kids club and everything else they do, We have seen them do all they can to ensure holiday makers have a lovely time, even if they have had problems.WELL DONE team... you make Golden Sands shine !!!

I booked a cheapy holiday through a newspaper for a weekend break and got Golden Sands, though I had read the reviews from other people I thought we'd still give it a go. We had been given a bronze chalet, which from the outside looked very old and tired but on entering you could see that it had been newly decorated and even had a modern leather sofabed and fairly new looking beds too. The staff were very friendly and the park looked quite neat and tidy. We had a great time and would definately go again.

Having had quite a few caravan holidays in the past, we were looking forward to our short break over the bank holiday. Although the weather was not good, NOTHING could have prepared us for this delapidated, dirty, grimy park. We only wish that we had looked at the reviews on here before booking - we would NEVER have considered it.

We arrived and were allocated a caravan right on the roadside, opposite the entertainment complex, the amusements, reception and shop. With 2 small children on our booking, we would have thought that this was NOT an ideal location to put us. However, this proved to be the least of our worries.....

We got into the caravan and we have never, ever seen a dirtier or more run-down and delapidated wreck in all our life. The caravan was ancient, as were all the appliances and fittings. I looked at the cooker and was nearly sick (no really!), it was gunked up with grime and old food and burnt offerings. It was totally disgusting. Absolutely revolting (hope you can imagine it, I am nearly being sick again just typing this and thinking about it!!!!Euuuuugggghhhhh!!!!). Then, because it was so cold, we tried to light the fire. It didn't work. Not a surprise really, as it looked like it should have been retired to fire heaven 25 years ago.

The furnishings were horrible. The top half of the settees had been covered but not the bottom half. And none looked too clean. The tables were old and rusty. The cutlery and crockery were damp and greasy and grimy. The sink in the bathroom looked like it was about to fall off the wall. All around the ill-fitting windows it was dirty and germy. I banned the kids from touching too much. The lino on the floor was ripped too.

My husband went over to complain but was given the standard reply of "we're fully booked this weekend - not a free van anywhere". Yeah, right. (We walked round the site 3 nights on the trot and there is no way that the site was full).

The warden came over to deal with our complaint and arranged for a cleaner to spruce things up.....It would have taken a TEAM of cleaners a WEEK to made any indent on the dirt in THIS van.

We could rant on and on about the grease and grime and dirt but so many people have said the same things.

The playparks for the children were dangerous and could not possibly be used - half of the equipment was broken or had been removed. There were nails sticking out of other pieces of equipment.

On our walks we spotted several dead rabbits too which were just left lying there. Also, bags of rubbish which had spilt and had not been cleared up.

We passed the "Chalets" - who dreamed THAT name up????? Imagine grey tired toilet blocks in a big long row with dirtier than dirty windows with little thin curtains stuck to the grease on the windows, divided up into small cells. Then multiply this vision by 10 times grosser and you'll be on the right track.....

Our van must have been ancient and we don't feel that either the oven or cooker or gas fire would have passed any safety inspection. In fact, they don't supply you with a gas lighter (there's no automatic ignition on the cooker, and the one on the fire didn't work) so you need to bring or buy a lighter or matches. My husband nearly lost his eyebrows every time he lit the fire with my children asking "are you all right?" every time he did!

We took some photos but they don't really do the park justice. It's really much, much worse. It needs thousands of pounds spent on it. The caravan we were in needs to be condemned. Poor thing.

We must have missed the great entertainment too - it's just that Bingo night after night in a tired and outdated complex where dust flies out in a cloud if you pat the seats was not our cup of tea.

Please don't waste your money - it's worse that we can ever convey. Even the woman in the shop wore the same expression as the park - defeated, tired and dejected.

TWO PLUS POINTS !!!!

1. We know not to come back.
2. We were not staying in the chalet cells from hell.

Had a weekend booked for me/partner and 2 young childen. Caravan we were given was nice, but unfortunatly, our neighbours although on there own weekend, were a loud music blaring/smoking/drinking big group without children.
So given that, i asked for us to be moved as not fair on kids.
Was told TOUGH, take it Leave it, no refund on anything, including the prepaid service (gas/elec) charge which we would'nt be using....
Not what you want to hear when you have driven 140 miles. So i paid alot to stay on A DIFFERENT site, but still used the entertainment evening passes which we had paid for.
The entertainment team were amazing, just a shame the rest of the staff, including the headoffice for PARK HOLIDAYS are utter crap! Never again will i go with Park Holidays.

Stayed here last week for 4 days in a chalet. Ok it was old and reminded me of old butlins but it was clean. Staff were friendly and the camp entertainers were very good. A good base with enough to keep you occupied. We would go back. We saw staff cleaning the park every day which after Reading reviews on here was a surprise.

I booked a chalet to stay in for 5 days last Summer. We didnt stay!

The only way to improve this holiday camp is by demolition. The best part of the holiday was when I was given a full refund! I demanded my money back, there was no way I was letting my children stay in such a run down holiday park. The chalet was dirty, with holes and stains everywhere, black mold in the shower the curtain rail was hanging off, the metal bunk beds were too small for anyone over the age of 8, tired 1970s decor.

Ive never felt so happy as when we drove out of the site, on our way to a beautiful, clean Haven Holidays site in Cornwall, (which I booked whilst on the Golden Sands site). Phew what a relief.
It all ended happily with a lovely holiday near St Ives, with Haven.
