Just returned from a 4 night break obtained via a national newspaper.
For anyone going with small children, we have 4 year old twins, this site IS NOT FOR YOU!!
Having been on a number of newspaper holidays the overall experience of the Golden Sands was disapointing. Other than the swimming pool there is a very dilapidated play area for small childen and nothing else. The pool looked tired and dated so we did'nt bother with that.
The site is very run down and dated, lots of pot holes on the roads and the chalets looked absolutely awful, had we not upgraded before arrival and been put in to a decent caravan we would have left on the day of arrival.
The beach is a significant walk away for small children as are local facilities so a car is essential for accessing anything away from the site.
The entertainments team were at best poor when entertaining the children, some of the material was in my opinion inappropriate. I'm not prudish but when the entertainment team are performing with the characters and make references to breaking in to chalets, pooing on floors, going to Texas and killing indians to a bunch of children whose average age was 5, a line was clearly overstepped, i appreciate that they are not professional children entertainers but i strongly suggest that they be either reigned in or supervised appropriately when entertaining children. On one occasion the entertainments team decided to cancel the planned entertainment on their own accord due to there only being a couple of children in attendance(i formally complained about the lack of interest by the entertainments staff over this matter). I did'nt attempt the restaurant as we were S/C so i can't comment on the food standards. The entertainment complex was dated and rundown, the toilets were absolutely stinking, broken/taped off urinals, grafitti, tiles missing and did i mention stinking.
If anyone is thinking coming to Devon this site is a real disappointment, especially as some holidaymakers at the site had travelled a great distance to get there, from the initial entrance to the site to seeing the chalets which are in abundance, we seriously toyed with the idea of just turning around and leaving, foretunately we were only about 50 miles from home and were in a position to be able to do so,a position that many were not. On a positive the Gold caravan was clean, well furnished and the only reason we stayed, a small maintenance issue (pilot light on living room fire and dead mole under caravan) were dealt with promptly by the site

Stayed here around the same time last year and enjoyed another great break. The club looked better with a new eating area and the park was tidy. The camping area has gone which looks better aswell. We'll be back again, maybe at the end of the summer (when it's cheaper again).

On arival the park looked clean and tidy, we couldn't check in till 4 so we had a look at the pool area. This was a major disapointment its half inside and half outside and realy small and realy realy cold.
Having got the keys to our caravan staff were nice and freindly, caravan was ok , i had to cleen toilet, bathroom & kitchen, not cleen enough for me. we visited the resturant twice, food is rubish waiting time is not less than 40 mins each time the resturant was empty. night entertainment is the worst ive ever seen , nothing for kids to do, not realy any entertainment for them only the arcade which was tiny and stunk of fag smoke from smokers smoking near doors. urine from the toilets as they were filthy. We tried to go in the so called heated pool, it was so cold my son cried. we ended up going to the leisure centre for a swim. only possative thing is the bar staff on this site. dawlish is a beautiful place but i wont be staying at this park again

Me and my partner have recently returned from a short break at golden sands and have to say what a fantastic time we both had. We have been to many larger sites in the past and find the staff rude and in many cases they would have an "I don't care now we've had your money" attitude. This can not be said for the team in Golden sands. We found them all extremely friendly and helpful, they remembered our drinks in the bar and the entertainments team would sit and chat with us and ask us about our day. The accommodation does vary across the site as it does on all holiday parks however we found our caravan had everything you would want and more. The location is fantastic and can't wait to return later in the year and recommend the place to family and friends. Well done to everyone who works there keep up the good work you'll never please everybody :-)))

Just got back from our 4 night stay at Golden Sands. I booked first, then saw a lot of negative reviews on here, but as always I went with an open mind. On arrival the check in process was quick and easy, we found our caravan (83)to find it was nice and clean with everything working. The site was clean, some parts looked like they needed updating, but we did notice on several occasions that workers were re-painting some areas. I did report a problem with the steps to the caravan later on in the week which was fixed within an hour of reporting it.
The onsite shop was reasonably priced.
The club was nice, but we did'nt spend too much time in there due to having a 6yr old, so i cannot give an opinion of the entertainment. Neither did we use the pool due to weather being so nice we were at the beach most of the day.
In all, we had a very pleasant stay well worth what we paid for it.
