This is the second time we have stayed in the Oak Barn, the Barn is stunning with a 4 poster bed in the main bedroom and a stunning bathroom that would rival any luxury hotel. The kitchen/dinning/sitting room has the benefit of being light and airy, the kitchen is high end with granite worktops and beautiful hand made cupboards. All in all a fantastic property that I'm sure we will come back to again and again.

“Luxury cottage in beautiful setting on moor”
Reviewed April 6, 2014 for a stay in April 2014

We were lucky to have a short break for a birthday celebration and stayed in this cottage for its proximity to Gidleigh Park. The cottage is very well designed and exactly as described on the website. It is part of a small farm in a tiny and very quiet hamlet. it is an upside down design with a field outside and was lovely to see horses looking into the sitting room window! Clean, spacious with an excellent kitchen, lovely bathroom and comfy bedroom. The kitchen has everything you need, good oven, fridge, freezer, dishwasher, washing machine. A lovely homemade cake with a bottle of wine was a nice welcome. The bathroom was lovely with a huge bath and great shower. Plenty of hanging space in the bedroom. Wifi very very slow but maybe no bad thing in such a peaceful location. Owners unobtrusive but available for any query.

“Satisfaction guaranteed”

This cottage has been beautifully crafted by its owners and offers cosy, clean and very comfortable accommodation in a stunning location. Easy access to the moor straight from the door, a 5 minute stroll down the lane to a rustic Dartmoor pub with a reputation for great food and riding from a very well run yard, a 5 minute stroll in the opposite direction.

If you crave a home from home cottage with freshly baked cake on arrival, peace and quiet and the company of horses outside your window then Oak Barn is the place for you. Richard and Becks are unassuming hosts who are on hand if you need them but be warned, if like mine your husband is into working with wood you may lose him in Richards workshop for a while!
A really lovely holiday is guaranteed if you stay at Oak Barn.

“A wonderful place to stay in the middle of stunning Devon countryside”

There is one big problem when you stay at the lovely Oak Barn and that is you do not want to leave! From the moment you arrive when you are greeted with a lovely freshly cooked sponge cake, fresh eggs and a bottle of wine, the peaceful surroundings engulf you.

Hosts Belinda and Richard are there to help if you need them, but they do not imping on your time. The Barn is ideally located for tours of The Moors and importantly is seven minutes walk down the quiet lane to The Rugglestone Inn where the meals are really great.

We highly recommend a stay in this beautifully constructed and fitted barn.

“Beautifully converted barn for a luxurious and cosy stay”

The Oak Barn has been converted to the highest standard, the underfloor heating secretly works away keeping the barn warm and to give that extra cosy feel we couldn't resist the log burner which kicks out its own fair share of heat! Really, I could go through and mention every detail from the perfect mattress and pillows, to the sensor night lights in the bathroom, to the amazing kitchen great for whipping up a family meal. The sofas hug you, the shower massages you, and the fresh air and walking prepares you to enjoy all those things even more. Widecombe in the moor is right in the heart of Dartmoor yet only thirty minutes from Exeter if you want a bit of retail therapy, the two pubs in Widecombe are both great (we went to both) and Newton Abbott has a huge Tesco and Asda to stock up for your holidays. Bovey Tracy has takeaways and some great craft shops. In every direction you can walk ramble, or just blast up a hill in ten minutes to get some fresh air and fantastic views.

Other nice touches is the full rack of wines for you to make use of and simply leave money at the end of your holiday, the good selection of DVDs, the board games, cleverly designed lighting, logs provided, stunning views out the windows, lovely roll top bath, sauna and so it goes on,

The owners leave you to your own devices which is great, but are on hand (the barn is on their farm) if you want to say hi or ask a question. There's plenty of parking and it's very private.

So far as our needs and taste the barn ticked every box for us. We had a fantastic family holiday and have some lovely memories. Very good value for money, especially in November, will definitely be back.

“Superb accommodation, beautiful location, welcoming hosts”

Fortunate to get a cancellation, July 20th 2013 - one week. Directions, provided by the owner, to get to the cottage, were most helpful. At the end of the journey, found ourselves going down a short country lane, and then arriving at Lower Venton Farm, where Oak Barn Cottage is located. After Richard had explained the facilities in the cottage ( including a sauna - so welcoming after treks on Dartmoor ) we took a brief trip into Widecombe on the Moor. Widecombe has a newsagent and groceries, and cream teas.
The cottage is spacious, and lacks for nothing, ( there is a wood burning stove for cold nights ) The web site describes the cottage - luxury accommodation -
it certainly lives up to that description. The bed was very comfortable and we just enjoyed the relaxation which the facilities provided. There is a large garden and we were encouraged to walk and sit wherever we wanted. The owners were helpful ( best free range eggs tasted - and we were allowed to collect the eggs from the hen coop ), and although readily available the owners kept a discreet distance, and we enjoyed the privacy of the accommodation. There are some lovely walks right on the doorstep, one of which takes you to the Rugglesttone Inn - food excellent and good choice of local ales and ciders. For a self catering holiday - this was the most interesting and relaxing holiday we have ever had.

“Fantastic- luxurious and secluded, with the moors and a great pub close by- perfection”

Richard (the owner) renovated the Oak Barn himself, and the luxurious feeling of the place is a testament to the hours and craftmanship he has put into it. The location is fantastic, Richard and family very welcoming but unobtrusive- a bottle of wine and eggs from their chicken were provided as a welcome gift when we arrived. The Barn is light and airy, comfortable and well equipped, with the cedar wood sauna and the shower particularly nice. The location is quiet and secluded, but just a short walk from the Rugglestone Inn (real ale and good food), and you can get out onto the moors and do excellent walks from the doorstep. The Oak Barn has everything you could want from a self catering cottage and we will definitely return-too good to miss.
