We were in the area and wanted to see the Moors. Although it was a sunny day elsewhere, the Moors were cold and misty. Driving through the fog it cleared to reveal Dartmoor prison and the museum. It was all very spooky and on entering the museum you read about the escaped mad axeman that was never caught and all kinds of other stories. As well as seeing weapons made by inmates. This isn't a huge museum but its setting is amazing.

This was the perfect day out, the atmosphere of the fog and the prison went so well together. We could not have planned a day like this, it had to just happen.

Lots of local stories, and actual gory objects to look at, which of course children love. You can really get a feel of what it must have been like to have been shut up here in Napoleonic times, with the damp and howling winds.

Very imformative and for £2 an absolute bargain. we stayed for over 2 hours looking at exhibits, prisoners' craftwork and less endearing creations and the video gives you an idea of the regime and conditions the current inmates experience.

What a wonderful museum, very interesting. Lots of history and stories of prisoners. I read some fascinating stuff. The staff were very helpful and told us to ask questions if we wanted more information. Spent an enjoyable hour here and could have spent longer.
