“Happy to go again”
Reviewed May 8, 2013

We met some friends here for an evening meal, whilst on holiday in the area, and had a very pleasant experience. There is a lovely traditional feel to the interior, with lots of different eating areas. The tables were well spaced for privacy, yet, as it was clearly popular, you also had the ambience of a place which was buzzing. We were all happy with our meals and had a great evening out. I would have no hesitation in returning when we are next in the area.

“Excellent PUB with god PUB food”
Reviewed May 7, 2013

Contrary to others here I have eaten here four times this year with parties of up to ten people. Everyone has been pleased with the food. Not restaurant food but decidely better than most pub food and well priced. The beer is always fresh and clear and well cellared. If you book in advance there is a large room at the end with a big open fire and relaxed sofas and chairs. much to my taste. The pub is a real pub with locals happily mixing with the eaters. Good car parking. Nearby a Norman Castle Keep and the wonderful Lydford Gorge if you need to walk off the lunch

“don't bother!”
Reviewed November 21, 2012

If you want a warm welcome then don't stop here! We passed by on a cold November lunchtime and ordered coffee and soup to take the chill out of our bones. Well obviously there had been some family argument because you could have cut the atmosphere with a knife. Our order was taken without the hint of a smile but when halfway through our drinks we were told there was no soup even though the couple before us had ordered and received theirs. I mean who ever runs out of tomato soup. Of course we wouldn't have had the drinks if they had told us in nthe first place the soup was off. Just very pleased we hadn't booked a room if this is an example of the service. One to avoid!

“Quality food”
Reviewed March 2, 2012

Fresh, locally sourced, home made and cooked food. Good range and selection. Meat well hung and cooked properly.
Excellent wine list, modestly priced. Very good service.
Sadly the present tenants (chef and wife) are moving on in the first week of March 2012.

“Oct half term”
Reviewed November 22, 2011

Walked to this pub twice during our half term stay .Would normally go to Peter tavy inn (and did) but this was a great surprise. Friendly bar staff who welcomed two soggy walkers and even soggier collie .
Food was excellent rump steak was fantastic and steak and blue pie almost as good.
Beer was well kept and fresh , something many pubs seem to have forgotten how to these days !
I think that during the summer months problems might occur with the tourist volumes passing through, and as the pub is small you would do well to avoid peak times. But out of season it's great .
