“Great family cycling”
Reviewed August 7, 2013 via mobile

We use the granite way regularly with our young family. They love cycling and it gives a relatively easy and safe ride off road for them. As a parent this gives piece of mind, my 4 year old how ever good he thinks he is would terrify me on the road with random stops to look at newts etc! The views in the first section from Okehampton up to meldon are limited but the view from the viaduct is fabulous. When the trains are running it is great to see them pass. The carriage cafe is basic but friendly but has unfortunately been closed recently. The second section to Sourton is more pleasant and my kids love the quirky Highwayman's Inn. The rest of the route up to the A30 includes Dartmoor ponies and great views. The half mile on road is unpleasant especially with young riders but worth it for the extra distance.

“Granite way in the rain”
Reviewed August 4, 2013

It doesn't go anywhere! It's just a little cycle path that runs parallel to two main roads, and has limited views. There's the slightly odd station café at the start, where they clear away the food before you are finished with it, but that's it for facilities. It terminates at a main road after a narrow muddy track, which is pointless if you have small children with you.

In essence it's a slightly boring ride to nowhere. If that floats your boat, then go for it, but otherwise there are better things to do in life.

“Local bike trail”

Use this before, still a good way to avoid the traffic by bike. The views from the way are still breath taking particularly over the viducts.

“good cycling with the children”
Reviewed May 4, 2013

The granite way offers good cycling with the children. The climb out of Okehampton to the start is hardgoing for young ones but they enjoyed the viaducts, the feeling of being out near the moors and finding newts in the old ponds

“Great day out”
Reviewed April 20, 2013

I spent the day cycling from Okehampton train station to Lydford. The weather was great, the track was nearly always flat and there seemed to be very little rubbish around. The only down side is that they haven't joined two parts of it up meaning you need to take a diversion on a busy main road for around 1/2 a mile. Apart from the diversion I cannot fault the track especially as I understand they are working on joining the two sections together. Be aware of thieves at the Okehampton station end. Don't leave your bike rack on the car etc.. - Signs around the car park remind you of this.
