“Always a wonderful treat”
Reviewed February 16, 2013

Bovey Castle is my favourite hotel. It is grand yet feels really homely. The lounges are just gorgeous as are all the rooms. I have stayed there many times and the decor and service are impeccable. Whenever there is a problem, the staff are quick to put things right. Mr Aresti, the manager, deals with incidents very thoroughly and wants to make sure everyone has the best stay they can possibly have. We did have a problem but it is being dealt with thoroughly and I don't think you can find a better place to go and treat yourself. The lodges too are heavenly as is the pool and spa. I'd still recommend it to anyone.

Room Tip: Try to avoid a room next to a supplies room ( room 40 was not the best but the view is nice) as this...

my wife and I stayed at Bovey Castle last night. We drove down through rain and snow, and to drive up to such a stunning building, be greeted by such incredibly welcoming and friendly staff was incredible. This hotel is a pure oasis of beauty, elegance, and relaxation, the lounges with roaring log fires are second to none, a impeccably clean spa and pool resort included. My wife commented on leaving that its the best hotel she has ever stayed at... a must visit

The family went to Bovey Castle for a surprise celebration of John Handslips' 70th birthday 10 Feb
the whole experience was unsurpassable in terms of the welcome, the staff attitude, the dining experience and the attention to our needs as a family occupying three room

The Castle is just a wonderful relaxed place with no snootiness and all targeted to making your stay very special

The manager Federico is a star, unobtrusive but watchful, with a sense of humour and a can do attitude. We felt we were the only people in the hotel...clearly we were not!

We stayed in one of the lodges with our friends, their three children and dog. The lodges are perfect for families, being spacious, well equipped and tastefully decorated. This is the second time we have stayed at the hotel (previously in the main hotel) and would recommend it to anyone wanting a relaxing country break with gorgeous surroundings and fantastic service. Great food, ambiance and setting. We'll be back again.

To celebrate my 60th birthday my husband booked two nights. Friends joined us as a surprise.
Had a most fantastic time - lovely room overlooking stunning scenery, superb afternoon tea and fun cocktail making class.
Beautiful hotel with great staff, cosy rooms with log fires and gorgeous swimming pool - what more could you want.

Room Tip: The rooms all seem to be of a high standard but the ones with the views are just that bit more speci...

We went to Bovey Castle for afternoon tea on Saturday which we had booked in advance a couple of weeks ago.
I had seen Bovey Castle on the TV; and having been to several 5 Star hotels before, was expecting the usual slightly 'stand offish' attitude from the staff.
I couldn't have been more wrong! From the young chap who parked our car, to the waiter who ran through what we would be having for tea [and arranged a sample menu for my Wife to look at so that we can come back soon] they were all very friendly, down to earth and couldn't have done anymore to help.
A beautiful setting, exceptional value for money, I would not hesitate to recommend that you should try it.
We are already planning our next visit - this time for lunch!

We stayed 3 nights here, and, like others before us, just found it the most wonderful relaxing and comfortable place to unwind. Once we arrived, we literally did not want to leave the place for one minute. I think it is the only hotel that I can remember where this has been the case. Each of the lounges is different to the others and all are beautifully decorated and furnished. The staff are all professional, polite and helpful without being intrusive. The beautifully presented rooms are large by any standard with large comfortable beds and huge bathrooms.
It is not cheap but given that they do offer frequent special deals, it is worth biting on the bullet just for the experience of staying in such a beautiful house.
My only criticism and it is a small one, is that the menu in the main restaurant focuses on high quality beef in every guise, to the exclusion of all else. Not a problem if you want beef, every dish is superbly cooked and presented, but not much use if you fancy chicken.
