We walked to this place, our 3rd visit ,and it is worth ever bit of effort again. The owner made us feel very welcome and the food was of a very high standard. Service polite and efficient. Make an effort to go as it is so well worth it. The bedrooms are good as well.

QWwent here for boxing day lunch an had a very good meal : fish and chips, homemade burgers etc, good local real ale and the most amazing location, but very boring atmosphere, practically no welcome: it's a great place to go, but don't expect to be welcomed or to have a trult 'great' experience. It's a pity because, if it did do this, it would be a world class place.

Hello, and sorry for not responding sooner.

I know exactly which table you were and can only apologise for the service that you received. The service was a difficult one to staff and run being Christmas and I felt during the service that we were struggling. We just tried to get through it as best we could.

Hopefully you'll give us another try perhaps on a beautiful summers day?

Kind Regards

Richard

A very atmospheric, centuries old Devonshire pub who serve excellent Sunday roasts based on local produce, our beef was magnificent. If you happen to be staying at Bovey Castle the Ring O' Bells should be approached through the woods along the river Bovey, it is a lovely walk. Our bill was £81 for three adults and two children. We had just the main course, which was generous, and some drinks.

On our way home from a weekend in Southampton we stopped off here as we’d visited it in August whilst on another trip away. The evening meal then had been fabulous (see separate review), so we were keen to try their Sunday Lunch. We both chose the Roast Beef.

Unfortunately, it was rather disappointing.

The beef itself was lovely. However, the roast potatoes were soggy and appeared to be covered in a thin film of grease, as were the parsnips, which were neither roasted nor boiled but somewhere between the two. They were just unsavoury both to look at and to eat. Also, the carrots were not al dente, but virtually raw.
I thought the Yorkshire pud and the gravy were ok, but my husband was disappointed with the lack of taste in both. The other vegetables (broccoli and mashed swede) were fine.

For £12.95 each which isn’t cheap for a Sunday roast, we expected much better cooking than this. It was such a shame compared to our previous evening meal visit.

Popped out for lunch yesterday, last of the lovely days this summer so we thought lets go to the Ring of Bells ( we normally go with friends in the evening ). As usual the pub & Village green looked a picture. The owner's friendly, his dog's friendly and the food was great as usual.
Probably the best.
