Really well equipped cottage and the beds and bedding are exceptional. Spacious and tastefully decorated. Julie could set up a cake business as the chocolate cake she had left for us was subime - a nice touch.
We were 5 adults, 3 teenagers and 2 dogs and there was plenty of room for everyone. The cottage itself is done to a very high spec and we were so impressed with the décor and the amenities provided (including the gorgeous homemade cake on arrival!)
The cottage is a short drive away from lovely beaches which we all (especially the dogs) enjoyed and is a good central base for the surrounding area.
A visit to Bigbury-on-Sea and Burgh Island is very worthwhile.
Would definitely return here in the future.
We recently booked a weekend trip to Harraton Cottage and had a wonderful time.
The booking process was easy, and Julie sent us all the details we needed before arrival. They couldn't have been more flexible and accommodating.
The cottage itself is beautifully designed and decorated. Everything within it is good quality with lovely crisp cotton sheets and thick towels. The kitchen is fully stocked with everything you need and its nice to have a table large-enough for everyone to sit at.
We had young children with us and it was well equipped for them. The children loved sharing the bunk bed rooms.
The garden is great too and plenty of parking.
Thanks to Julie & Paul for a great stay, we can’t wait to come back.
Harraton Cottage, is a nicely furnished and comfortably modernised cottage, a great downstairs layout, immaculately clean and very well and thoughtfully supplied. Home made cake left for us.
We are a family of three couples two children and two well behaved small dogs. We stayed at the cottage for one week in early April.
-It’s very clean, nicely decorated and modern, lovely underfloor heating and very close to a good selection of shops and restaurants in Modbury and Salcombe. We Booked the cottage as a base to the beautiful beaches nearby at Bantham, Bigbury-on-Sea and Thurlestone. The garden is very large and The tree house, swing, and see saw are great fun.
-Only one bedroom had a wardrobe, one a very small rail, the others nothing on which one could hang up clothes. Clothes rails and hangers really are needed.
- The ensuites were very nice and modern but have nowhere on which one can put toiletries etc, a shelf would be so useful.
-There is only a small hand shower over the bath in the family bathroom and it did not have a wall fitment to hang it on. Not ideal for a family.
-It’s Very close to a busy noisy road, entrance to the property is next to a dilapidated cow shed and yard and area piled with farm rubbish, old tyres etc. In fairness there is development going on, so maybe this will change.
- There were bullocks in the yard close to the cottage, they were penned next to a seven foot high pile of manure and mixed bedding which extended the whole length of their yard. This had obviously been there for some time. The smell was pretty overpowering and it was attracting swarms of flies. The garden surrounding the property though quite noisy from the traffic could be delightful but only If the wind was blowing the smell away from the cattle yard, otherwise it was too unpleasant to sit out in.
-This property was said to be fenced safely for dogs, but along the fences adjoining the field above the garden and nearest to the road there are many places a dog could easily get through. As it’s so close to a very busy road and we have two dogs this was a real concern.
We booked Harraton Cottage for 2 nights to celebrate my mother in laws 80th birthday. 5 adults 3 kids and 1 small dog took up residence and it couldn't of been better. Loads of space, fabulous kitchen - very high spec, with everything you needed and more. A great open plan downstairs meant we could all sit, chat, cook, drink together but there was also a separate room with sofa, tv, games for kids which was great.
Lovely bedrooms - very comfy beds. The only thing slightly negative was that each room only had 1 coathanger which meant we had to hang 3 shirts on 1 hanger, so maybe a few more would help.
Great en suites and again the only thing missing was a shelf of some sort to put wash stuff on (shave stuff. toothbrushes etc) but again finished to a v high spec and lovely showers!
It wasn't the best weather to explore the gardens fully but the kids loved the tyre swing and the dog had a good run round - I can imagine it's beautiful in the summer.
Julie left us a gorgeous lemon drizzle cake for our arrival which the kids couldn't wait to get in to!
Hope to go back again!
We booked the cottage for a 3 night stay to celebrate my Dads 60th. This involved 6 adults, 3 dogs and one 2 year old. The cottage ensured we were all catered for it is clean to high standard and as beautiful as the pictures show it to be. It has everything you could possible think of to make it a real home from home stay. The cottage has everything from toys, tea bags, foil and towels.
It is located only a short drive away from some beautiful beaches and we had the best weather for February to make the most of these.
We would definitely recommend this cottage to everyone and the host are brilliant. Julie responds quickly to any questions and makes a delicious home made treat for your arrival. We will defiantly return.
Having known little of what to expect in the South Devon area, even less the cottage, we had a wonderful time. The owner set us up perfectly - clean/tidy, surprisingly sleek and modern inside, exceptionally well equipped - and managed to provide a bespoke service (including all-request, home-baked cupcakes!) while being unobtrusive and generous alike. The South Devon coast-line turned out to be as beautiful and richly diverse as any we have seen in the UK. Thoroughly recommend.
