“What a find”
Reviewed August 26, 2014 via mobile

Stumbled across this wonderful place, what a lucky find, everything from the welcome to the staff and most importantly the food was excellent, 3 adults and one child and we just couldn't fault it, perfectly cooked steak for one and fish and chips for two with exceptional batter and really fresh fish, and bangers and mash for junior, we also tried desert which was great and even 9 year old Felix said the little chocolate pod was "really nice" all in all it's how it should be done, thank you very much.

“Mid-week lunch”
Reviewed August 12, 2014 via mobile

We decided to go to the Dartmoor for lunch after seeing some great reviews. We were not disappointed!

We were warmly welcomed on arrival and seated with drinks within minutes. I found the atmosphere very relaxing, the staff polite and helpful.

The dining area has nice relaxing, quality feel, I was very pleased to have a spectacular view across the fields from my seat. Very impressed so far.

The menu choice was excellent, really is something for everyone.
I chose the flat iron steak from the specials board, very glad I did too.
The best steak I've ever had, not bad for a Tuesday lunchtime!

Our lunch was excellent, we are already planning to go again soon!

Highly Recommended

“Excellent - Everything they do they do really well”
Reviewed August 10, 2014

Stayed three nights in two rooms, two adults and three teenage children. Easy to book, helpful with the children. Food great and service was very good even though they were rushed off their feet. Rooms really cosy and breakfast delicious. Everyone was very friendly even when very busy. Everything they do - rooms, dinner, breakfast - they do really well. Would stay again.

“A good start”
Reviewed August 4, 2014

We arrived in Lydford and following recommendations we thought we would try the Dartmoor Inn. On arrival we were greeted by a friendly bar man who, although they were obviously a little short staffed was pleasant and took our order.
The soup was superb and both my partner and i enjoyed it. However, we both ordered fish. I had scampi which arrived in a small soup bowl topped by 4 or 5 scampi and my partner ordered a large fish and chips. The scampi was ok, but needed a salad or something to accompany as it was a bit greasy. My partners arrived and he was very disappointed as it looked like a childs portion (the £14.95 price did not reflect this.) When we questioned this we were told that it was indeed the large portion, but the chef would send out extra. After a short wait a side plate of undercooked fish and another piece of fish was given to us. In amongst the fish was a deep fried scallop (complete with roe) which was very unpleasant. It is a shame as the pub is ideally placed and very well decorated. We would not visit again.

We visited the dartmoor on Sunday lunch a cold welcome and couldn't find our booking !! Limited choice on the menu and when the food arrived it was over cooked and bland the dartmoorinn needs to think back to the glory days and injected some passion into the food !! We won't go again
