“Convenient but a few minor niggles”
Reviewed January 10, 2017 for a stay in December 2016

We booked the cottage for a 5-day stay over Christmas as my son lives in Ivybridge. The booking process was fine and communication with the owners was efficient. The house was clean and tidy on arrival with decent-size bedrooms. One double (5' bed), one twin and a single. The only problem I have is the lack of drawer space. The double bedroom has one drawer at the bottom of the wardrobe and in another area a marble washstand, which may be "quaint" but is not practical and could easily be replaced by a useful set of drawers. The twin bedroom has shelves in the wardrobe and the single bedroom has open wire shelves which could easily be replaced by a slim set of drawers.
The bathroom (1) has a bath and shower with a fixed head and good water pressure.
The kitchen/diner is a reasonable size but the oven markings have all worn off so you have to experiment to find grill, oven etc. There is a dishwasher and washing machine but we did not use either.
The central heating controller did not have instructions to programme - only temperature UP/DOWN so for a winter rental is probably not efficient.
Parking outside the property is resident's permit so you have to remove your car during the day.
If you want to be in Ivybridge this is a good option and certainly most suitable for us.

Hello Ian,
I'm glad you found the cottage suitable. We do stress during booking, that if you have any problems, you should contact us. We are able to resolve most issues very quickly. Sorry about the lack of drawer space. You are the first guest in 10 years to have had a problem with drawer space. Given that, thank you for your practical idea for a useful set of drawers, but we'll probably stick with the quaint washstand for now. Many previous guests have commented favourably on the decor and furnishings, but we do keep these things under continuous review. Sorry about the oven markings. They have worn off as a result of cleaning, and that issue has now been resolved. The instruction book for the oven is in the kitchen. With a quick call to me, I could have pointed you to it to save you any confusion. Ditto the heating timer. It is a modern system which is set to keep the cottage warm continuously throughout the day, but can be over-ridden simply by pressing a button. With one quick telephone call, I could easily have walked you through that procedure, or pointed you to the full booklet of instructions. Parking: we are close to the town centre, so the Local Authority requires that spaces are made available for shoppers during the day. You can park outside the cottage over-night(from 4pm till 10am), and for 2 hour slots during other hours. As I am sure you discovered, there is also all-day, unrestricted, non-permit parking within 80m of the cottage, and a municipal carpark just across the bridge .

Thank you once again for your review.

Russell

“Just PERFECT !”
Reviewed November 13, 2016 for a stay in September 2016

or some reason this seems to be the third review I have been asked to write -what happened to the other two ?

Briefly, this cottage is just perfect…. great location 2 minutes from the heart of Ivybridge village. Easy to walk to coffee shops, grocery stores etc. People very friendly and willing to chat to you. Cottage tastefully decorated, well equipped, generous sized rooms, great bathroom, huge kitchen/diner and living room. Loved the shady back garden - great for clothes drying in the sun. Arrangements to collect keys were simple and worked well. Russell was easy to communicate with and a generous host. Would highly recommend !!

Heather,
I have no idea what happened to the other two reviews. Lost in the digital ether, I guess. It was a pleasure to have you stay, and I'm glad you took our advice to get out & about. You certainly made the best use of your time. Thanks for persevering with the reviews. We really appreciate your comments.

“Home From Home”

I wish I could give this property a poor review then I could keep it a secret and visit whenever I liked but that wouldn't be fair. This cottage was almost perfect for our family group (grandparents, 2 x 20 somethings and a 2 year old). It's deceptively large with a decent sized living room cosily furnished with two sofas and a single chair (which I can't describe but it was fought over!). There's a tv with FreeSat, a dvd player and a cd player. There are a selection of discs for the latter two and a cupboard with a variety of board games. The main focus of the room is the beautiful fireplace with a solid fuel stove and a stack of logs.
The kitchen/diner is very well equipped with every appliance you need and is spotlessly clean. This leads out into a small courtyard lined with flowers and furnished with a patio table and chairs and a lounger.
Upstairs the master bedroom is quirky with open beams, a window seat and a tiny wood burning stove. The furniture is diverse but of high quality and the bed is extremely comfortable with lovely bedlinen. The second bedroom has twin beds while the third is a lot smaller with a single bed.
While the rest of the cottage is countrified and eclectic, the bathroom is stunning in it's modernity. Tiled in white with a floor set with blue glass pebbles, there is a large corner bath and a huge shower cubicle with a waterfall showerhead. Absolute bliss after a very hot and sticky day at the beach!
On top of all this, all towels and bedlinen are provided along with a welcoming bottle of wine.
The only slight drawback is that the road is a little busy - avoid school chucking out time at all costs! - and it's not always possible to park directly outside. However, we never had problems parking our two cars a little further along the road. Finally the owner, Russell, is incredibly helpful with any queries or requests. I can't recommend it highly enough.

“Great place to stay”
Reviewed July 5, 2016 for a stay in June 2016

Spacious cottage in a good location, within 5 minutes walk to the centre of Ivybridge. Very well equipped kitchen. Lovely little garden which is private and quiet. The bedrooms have lots of storage and the beds are very comfortable. Lovely bathroom. Plenty of parking within a few metres of the cottage and there is a beautiful walk from the bridge following the river upstream. Ivybridge is a great location if you want to visit several places such as Dartmoor, Cornwall and Torbay as we did. Good communication with Russell, the owner.

The cottage was beautiful and very clean, there was a lovely bottle of wine to greet us when we arrived, what a fantastic place to spend your holiday, could not fault it at all, lovely garden to relax in if you wanted to anytime. Lovely location, lots of lovely restaurants to eat out. We haven't stopped singing its praises, there is everything in the cottage that you need.
