A friendly team led by a very charasmatic leader who are totally customer focused.
This hotel is big enough to complete with major nationals & small enough to care.
The food menu & quality is surprisingly excellent and without any doubt offers real value for money.
Gentlemen can expect a fine selection of local & national ales & the
ladies can enjoy a vast selection of fine wines. Children are also catered for with regard to food & beverages.
When visiting Devon either to stay or visit drop off & experience this local Inn for youselves.
It all that it offers the Sportsman Inn really does offer value for money.

I travel frequently on business and have stayed at many hotels. I would recommend this hotel as being one of the best in its class. The rooms are clean are much better than the hotels star rating implies. I dined in the reasonably priced restaurant most days and I really liked the comedy and entertainment themed areas of the restaurant. I would have liked to have seen a wider choice of vegetarian meals.

The service at reception and in the restaurant could not have been more attentive and welcoming. Unusually for a hotel, I had the pleasure of being introduced to many of the staff by name. It is the staff who take this hotel from good to outstanding. During my stay I was greeted by Bill the owner, along with Mike, Sharon, Jo, and Nic of the the chefs. The chefs, bar staff and chambermaids whose name I didn't catch were all equally good and it was clear to see that they all had a great rapport with their customers.

I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND the Sportsmans Inn and Ivybridge Hotel.

From seeing the "home-made apple pie" coming out of the microwave to the jokes about toilets facing Mecca, form the landlord himself, I don't think this place is worthy of being called a hotel. And I think someone else here mentioned Mike behind the bar. While eating our meal, he came over to ask how the meal was and one of our party mentioned that the fishcakes contained no fish!! (I tried one, they really were suitable for a vegan!!) With indignance he swiped the plate away without a word of apology or a could I get you something else... that was it, the meal was gone!!! Food is reasonable enough but not when you are deprived of anything at all to eat! much better places then this to stay and eat nearby. ( And another thing, padded toilet seat always stike me as slightly inheigenic.)

I was in the area on business and had been recommended this hotel by a friend. I wasn't disappointed. It's not The Ritz, but it is in a lovely village. The stay was peaceful, pleasant and friendly. The hotel is attached to the pub which has a great restaurant. The food was excellent and reasonably priced. What made the stay for me was the welcome I received, and the friendly staff made me feel at home. I would recommend this hotel to anyone traveling alone as well as couples or larger groups.

Room 414 definately the best but occupied by my sister and husband.
Booked in at last minute and found staff to be very welcoming.
Early bird meal at £10 for 2 persons was excellent value and quite good.
Comfortable and cosy lounge area.
Would recommend.

Recently stayed at the Sportsman for a relative's birthday as that''s where he was having the do, seemed silly to walk or stay sober and drive elsewhere.
We paid £75 for 1 night for a double with en-suite, which would be acceptable if it was of a good standard, sadly we were dissapointed.
The Double room was very dated in decor and reeked of smoke. Given the smoking ban came into effect in 2007 i can only assume the furnishings have not been updated for some time. The bed was incredibly hard and uncomfortable and provided little comfort.
We also paid £15 a head for a 2 course dinner, but the food was poor. I started with lamb Kofta's which tasted dreadful and very soft, like a frozen meal. For our mains the majority had rib-eye steak. I'd ordered mine rare and recieved a poorly cooked piece of meat that was more medium, rather thin and tasted like a cheap steak from a supermarket that had been in cellophane all it's life and not hung etc. Given the abundance of local producers this place could have served something so much nicer and I'd be happy to pay more for higher quality.
The staff were freindly and helpful with a good location and parking facilities, but £75 a night for this? Really needs improvement.
On the plus side, as a fire safety consultant, this place has taken it's responsibility of care seriously. Perhaps the modern fire alarm system cost so much they ran out of cash to spend on quality produce and decor.
On the whole, a decent place to go for drinks but i wouldn't bother staying there again.

Not very welcoming when you arrive.
The whole down stairs is in need of decoration.
The lobby has a lot of damp and in our room the shower tray would not empty.
It is noisy at night time and the food is average.
The one redeeming facter was the view from the room.
