We have stayed at Finlake 3 times and always enjoy it. We have stayed in lodges (in Woodland View) and a caravan (in Deer Park), all dog friendly accommodation, and all of which have been modern and spotlessly clean.

We tend to not use the swimming pools, preferring to use the tennis courts and table tennis instead - it's a really good idea to take your own raquets and balls though to save money on the cost of hiring them at Reception.

There is a lovely, quiet, grassy picnic area with short woodland walks a few minutes walk away from the Deer Park area which we discovered on our most recent visit. It is marked on the parks site map and is well worth a visit for dog owners!

Room Tip: We prefer the lodges in Woodland View as they seem to be in a much quieter area of the park. We foun...

We stayed in a 4 berth lodge which was a caravan with wood effect cladding, which also had a hot tub. The caravan itself was fine and to be able to relax in the hot tub after a day's sightseeing was the perfect way to end the day.

Because of the setting in woodlands, there were a lot of wasps which made eating out on the decking virtually impossible. The caravan had free wifi which appeared to work only in the early hours of the morning.

On Wednesday night we booked a table to eat in the restaurant for the buffet. We'd booked a table for 4 but upon arrival, were told the staff had made a mistake and had booked a table for 2, which was quickly rectified. We then went to get the food but were greeted by several flies on the meat and vegetables. We commented to the chef who said the flies had been a pain all afternoon. It also took the chef, 5 (yes 5) attempts to find my wife a clean plate. Needless to say, we chose not to proceed with the buffet. When we notified the "maître de" their response was "ok".

The following day I went to the on-site shop for some breakfast supplies. The lady that served me could not bring herself to smile and just announced my bill (£2.85) without the word, "please". When I gave her the money, there was no thanks. My father had had an identical encounter with this lady the day before.

Later that day we decided to have a lunchtime snack. The café was relatively quiet yet we still ended up waiting over 30 mins for our food. When it came, the portions were plentiful. However, we were charged £1.70 for a small bottle of orange for our daughter.

So, yes, I liked the caravan and location. The friendliness and politeness of the staff left a bit to be desired. Would I stay here again? Yes,

I am at Finlake as I write this review. We are staying in a luxury woodland lodge for 4 people. The lodge is fantastic and lives up to it's luxury name.

It has a double bedroom and a twin bedroom. The double bed is not that big and you have to pull it away from the sloppy walls otherwise I had to sleep with my feet hanging off the bed (I am 5ft 11).

The hot tub is great ow ever we couldnt work out how to turn it off at night so my wife struggled to sleep as it kept her awake.

The farm shop is ok, but could do with more stock. The food at the retreat bar was ok, however the tables in the bar area is a bit strange. It's like they have gone and said we need some comfy chairs, but oh we also need people to eat so we will put some tables that don't go with the chairs.

Swimming pools are nice.

The main niggle is that the different facilitates seem independent. The farm shop not knowing where the entertainment was, the bar not knowing information about the gym or the entertainment. You just have to muddle through and you get there.

Other than above it has been great so far and I would recommend.

We just spent week at finlakes in a woodland deluxe lodge. The park is excellent very clean although quite big never seemed busy. The lodge as previous reviews state is excellent two storey two bathrooms hot tub sauna dishwasher washing machine under floor heating. Lovely fluffy towels and two bathrobes I assume you only get two for the adults in the lodge. The woodland lodges are situated in the woods and when father inlaw visited for the day he struggled to walk up the hills to the pool/bar area. Slight disappointment that we didn't have a view from the balcony due to the trees although this kept lodge nice and cool. Pool area excellent, used tennis courts and definitely recommend tree top adventure on site. Nice to have free exercise classes aswell. Overall a really good holiday

Room Tip: Would recommend hot tub

Our "lodge" was a caravan clad in wood, but we knew this before we went.
The decor was contemporary and the caravan was clean. The kitchen was well equipped with a good sized fridge and freezer. The dishwasher was a nice surprise. The double bedroom also had a small ensuite loo and wash basin.
The caravan allowed pets and had a good sized deck with a gate which made life much easier when the dog wanted to go out for a sniff about.
We also had a hot tub which we absolutely loved! It was spotlessly clean and the chemicals were checked every day. It could be noisy in the night so we turned it off.
The holiday park was very green and well kept with a large play area for the children and a lovely outdoor swimming pool which was a nice temperature. There were a couple of table tennis tables and a pool table outside. We were blessed with lovely weather so this was fine for us, but there wasn't a lot for the children to do inside if you had bad weather. I was surprised they didn't have a large barn with equipment inside.
We used the indoor pool every morning which was adults only until 9am.
All of the exercise classes and use of the gym are included in the price. The instructers were all excellent.
We ate in the restaurant a couple of times and can highly recommend the carvery, but we didn't like the food on the American theme night, the chicken was dry, as was the potato salad. Drinks are a reasonable price.
All of the staff were very helpful and approachable and I can't fault them.
My only complaint would be that you had to pay £5 per hour if you wanted to borrow table tennis bats or tennis racquets. This is on top of a deposit. I think it's a poor show that they can't just supply the bats etc with a returnable deposit. Also if you wanted your child to take part in an organised rounders game it was a £5 charge too! I thought it was a pity they couldn't organise these for free. We bought a table tennis set for less than £5 and used it all week.
Other activities were better value, such as the tree tops which was £12 for an hour.
All in all we had a great holiday and would go back.

Our accomodation was lodge 35, by the lake. It was stunning, although the peace was disturbed by workmen building a balcony for the lodge next to us which lasted all day throughout our 4 night stay. Staff spent time offering us alternative accomodation but we didn't want to lose the fantastic lodge we had, so we decided to stay where we were and put up with the sawing and banging. Thanks to the staff for trying their best (and thanks for the bottle of wine), however it's a shame that building works are carried out in high season when you have saved up and waited all year for a break like this. We weren't the only holiday makers affected by the noise as the lodges are close to one another and the noise carried a long way.

That aside, the holiday was lovely. Our kids had a fantastic time. When the sun comes out, the pool area gets crowded and people move up onto the grass banks. There are plenty of activities, which cost extra but money well spent. We had a great time here.

Room Tip: Our kids loved the sea scooters - only limited spaces, so book early.

Thoroughly enjoyed our holiday. Kids loved it all. Great location for getting out and about, which we did most days. Caravan was nice, well furnished and clean. Made good use of the outdoor pool and park. Daughter did the tree walking which she loved. Only ate in the restaurant once and I was a bit disappointed in it but that would be my only negative about this place. Fantastic holiday. Already booked to return next year!
