“Lovely Staff but sorry did not like your Sunday Lunch!”
Reviewed November 17, 2012

Stopped here on the way back from a rowing session at Totnes, thought it looked a lovely little pub and we were really hungry on this cold October day,but where was the fire other reviews talk about?my granddaughter was really cold ,i nearly went out to the car for her coat!We had sunday roast and i think by the other reviews we must have caught them on a bad day,i thought at £8.95 which is a little more expensive than most pubs it would be really good but the plate was not that big ,the beef was chewy and not much of it,and i think the brussel sprouts had only been cooked for a minute! We were still hungry(never been that after a sunday lunch)so had apple crumble which again at £5.50 expected a nice dish full but got a small round pot and a little jug of custard tasted lovely but,not good value for money at all.Good thing the staff were really lovely and to be fair did ask if the food was ok-just wish i had the nerve to say no it is not! Did say it once when we were in London and got ill from the replaced meal so am put off by speaking up!

“Classic tiny pub with a twist”
Reviewed September 25, 2012

Having stayed here contentedly (though a bit coldly) several times, we booked somewhere a little plusher and walked here for supper in the miniscule whitewashed dining room with an open fire - yes, needed even after a sunny day on Dartmoor - tucked inside this tiny traditional pub Very reasonable, small menu of changing conventional staples - ham and eggs, haddock and chips - lifted by more ambition, for example an excellent home made pâté, or chef experimenting with a delicious basil semi-freddo dessert. Cheese board was rather overwhelming, and should have had local specialities introduced, if there were any. It is so easy to use and explain local produce, even on a less expensive menu such as this, that I would love to see chef and the owners emphasise this element a little more.

“Warm friendly welcoming local with good food”
Reviewed September 4, 2012

Open fire on a cool August night, fantastic home made pizza and fine fish and chips. What more can you wish for - other than perfectly kept selection of local ales to be drunk with friendly locals. Thanks guys and see you again!

“Ok if you like dogs..”
Reviewed September 1, 2012

A really nice pub, obviously favoured by the locals. The place was clean and the staff were very helpful and friendly.
We ate in the bar and the food was quite nice, portions a reasonable size and the choice again was good.

I am a dog lover but at one stage it was 'busy' with dogs, one lady had a large alsation type dog in there and a guy arrived with two morelarge (ish) dogs which for a small bar was two too many.

Well behaved dogs but when you are eating your dinner it can be a bit much.

I would visit again but if the dogs were there I wouldn't eat. Perhaps we just picked the wrong evening.

I would recommend a visit as it's a 'real' pub.

“A nice meal”
Reviewed August 30, 2012 via mobile

We came here after spending ages finding the union inn which looked great in trip advisor but more of a cupboard in real life. So as we passed this pub on the way, we turned around and popped in. Parking was a bit hairy.

The pub is nice, clean and traditional with a modern twist due to young landlords. We sat in the restaurant because the bar was full. It was slightly too quiet which made it lack a bit of atmosphere. The food was filling, good quality and tasted nice although I'd say the starter and main were both over priced by a couple of pounds each. A good meal and the landlord was very pleasant.
