FABULOUS, my wife and I have just returned from a wonderful weekend break at MILL END HOTEL.All aspects of our stay were excellent, setting, accommodation, food, staff and nothing was too much trouble. We were greeted by MD Mike and owner Sue who were delightful helpful and friendly. Our room "DART" was spacious light beautifully decorated warm and very comfortable with a refurbished bathroom eqipped with "White Company" toiletries.
We had delicious home baked welcoming biscuits and tea/coffee making facilities in the room which overlooked open fields and the hotel gardens.
Breakfasts were delicious catering for healthy and full english options with fresh croissants and delicious fruits.Dinners were equally wonderful with canapes in front of open fires in the comfortable lounges followed by delicious home made breads and a very varied high quality menu completed with home made petit fours. The wine list was extensive with good quality inexpensive house wines. The staff were extremely polite pleasant professional fun and happy in their work.Egla even sorted my computer problems!!!
The nearby walks on your doorstep were exceptional with riverside routes to neighbouring Chagford or in the opposite direction to Fingle Bridge or Castle Drogo. The moors were a short drive away.We could not recommend this hotel and its staff more highly.we shall return with friends and family!!!

Room Tip: dart room superb

On behalf of the whole team, many thanks for your kind comments. We were delighted to hear that you enjoyed your Birthday weekend at Mill End. Dart is one of our most popular rooms - and its private balcony is a delight in the warmer months! Our chefs were very pleased to read how much you enjoyed your meals in our restaurant (and I am glad that we were able to sort out your computer too!). We look forward to welcoming you back soon!

We stayed in the East Okement room. It was a very pleasant room, sizeabale and with a great big bath, it was a very comfortable stay and we would certainly go again!

Smoked mackerel and the porridge, highly recommended for breakfast!

Wow! www.millendhotel.com - The epitomy of 'comfy luxury' and my husband is a genius to have found such a special place that we can now call 'our Dartmoor holiday home!'

Dartmoor itself is absolutely stunning at any time of year and this hotel was the icing on the cake for us this weekend - from the warm and friendly welcome that awaited us on arrival at Mill End, to the comfy luxury of the newly refurbished bedrooms, the fine dining (which was to die for!) and the wonderful selection of great wines, we are so pleased to have been able to truly kick off our shoes and enjoy all that this hotel has to offer. This is most certainly 'the perfect home from home' to get away from it all and as we enjoyed our pre-dinner gin & tonics in front of the burning log fire on Saturday evening, the world of work, children and everything else was somewhere far, far away. Perfect.

(... and unbeknown to my husband, before we left, I booked our next visit for the New Year! sssh! - it's a surprise!)

Room Tip: We stayed in Plym, which is one of the newly refurbished attic rooms at the front of the hotel. We...

Thank you for your very kind comments. Your comment about Mill End being "home from home" is very pleasing, as this is absolutely the atmosphere we aim to create - luxurious but not stuffy!
Our Executive Chef and his team were delighted to read your comments regarding the meals you enjoyed in our restaurant. Fine dining is very much at the heart of Mill End, and it is always good to read such positive feedback on this.
We hope to have the pleasure of welcoming you back again soon!

Had a wonderful stay in the beautiful little hotel Country House Hotel. The website does not do justice to the rooms which are charming. My room was beyond comfortable with luxury full size toiletries and beautiful linens on a fluffy duvet. The food in the restaurant was fabulous and the service attentive but not intrusive. In fact I could not find fault with anything. Its a well kept secret set in one of the most attractive areas of Dartmoor. Plenty to do around and about whether it be country pubs, walks or the buzz of Exeter which is only 20 miles away. This place is great value for money and has it all!

We were delighted that you had such an enjoyable stay with us, and on behalf of the whole team here at Mill End I would like to thank you for your kind comments.

It was particularly pleasing to note your comment that our service was "attentive but not intrusive", as this is precisely the balance that we aim to create.

You are absolutely right that the website doesn't currently do justice to the rooms. We are currently undertaking further upgrades to a number of our rooms, and as soon as these are complete we will be adding new photography to the website.

We hope to have the pleasure of welcoming you back soon.

Mill End nestles in one of the most beautiful areas within walking distance of the very pretty Chagford Village, Fingle Bridge and Castle Drogo. More importantly there's a fantastic pub 150 yards up the road.

We took our nine year old twin girls and our feisty young dog so we were a little nervous that we would spoil everybody's peace! Actually, we couldn't have been made more welcome. The manager, Mike, made us feel totally at ease and the staff were extremely friendly and very professional. Muddy boots and a casual vibe are considered to be all part of the deal. it's very easy to let your dog (and kids) out through the back door and let them explore the riverside and grounds.

Don't be nervous of taking your kids into the very excellent restaurant; provided they know how to behave they will be made welcome and looked after. The cooking is superb and there is something on the menu for all tastes. I had fun with a comprehensive wine list too! Check out the huge mill wheel turning in full view of the window in the corner.

Sink into a sofa with a restorative G&T after a hard day's exploring, consult the menu and look forward to a leisurely meal in the knowledge that a soft bed awaits with the sound of the mill wheel and river to send you off to sleep.

This is an unpretentious, simple and beautifully managed hotel. We felt totally at ease and my kids loved it. And finally...I cannot sign off without mentioning the two spectacularly ugly but appealing pigs that live in the paddock.

Room Tip: The family room called 'Walkam' was really cosy. Lovely little window seat overlooking the g...

It was a pleasure having you here (and the girls were so delightfully well-behaved!). I am glad that you enjoyed our food, and the restorative qualities of a Mill End G&T!

I hope that we will be able to welcome you back soon (don't forget our downstairs garden rooms, with private patios and direct access to the grounds, are ideal for those with dogs).

Like a previous review we found this hotel on late rooms whilst travelling through the area en route to Cornwall. The hotel was a lovely find in beautiful settings. The room had a huge comfy bed and was beautifully decorated and furnished, with a little patio over the mill wheel and a view over the gardens in the evening sun. My personal favourite touch was provision of decent sized mugs and fresh milk for our cups of tea in the room! The staff were all very friendly and charming too.

We had dinner and breakfast in the restaurant and the food was divine, although a little pricey. For a honeymoon treat though, it was definitely worth it.

It was particularly good to read your kind comments regarding the service you received from the team here at Mill End. We do aim to create an environment which is professional and efficient, yet relaxed and friendly.

And as you say, the mugs in the bedrooms for a proper cuppa are also a big plus!

We hope to see you back at Mill End again soon.

We have spent many decades ploughing up/ down the A30 to/from Cornwall and have completely missed this stunning corner of the country! Stayed here for one night in August. The friendly welcome was matched by the setting and the beautiful bedroom. Its a a lovely hotel which combines smart with cosy really well. It is probably geared more to the needs of dogs ( they have a dedicated dog cleaning area) than children ( they operate a no kids in the dining room in the evening policy) but our well house trained 8 year old was nevertheless made to feel welcome. Afternoon tea in the garden by the stream was a real treat. Great breakfast too. Some lovely walks on the doorstep and the village of Chagford is worth a visit. The view from the church graveyard must be one of the great English vistas.
