This cottage has been really well restored and made a great place to stay. Very close contact with the quiet street outside, friendly neighbours and so close to the village shops, pubs and car parks while being very much removed, yards from the river. The allocated parking space is probably not for the faint hearted with its narrow, steep approach but we found using the town car parks with the pass provided was more than adequate and very flexible. At one point we needed a bit of minor maintenance and it was dealt with very quickly and smoothly. Highly recommended.
This delightful cottage was just what we hoped. The setting was perfect, and we found the tucked-away riverside garden very pleasant for a summer drink by the Mardle, watching the ducks. The parking was fine, as the town centre car park was very close. When we had a problem with a light, Steve came round that morning and sorted it out. We even had Netflix!
The cottage was very cosy, perfect for a couple or a couple of friends. Located in a small village with a few local shops. The cottage was very clean when we arrived, and the owner had left some us some bread, jam cheese and milk which was lovely. Tea & coffee was available too. The kitchen area had all necessary utensils if you wanted to cook. We had to park in a car park a couple of minutes walk away, as the cottage is down a tiny side road with no parking, but that was ok, the owner had left us a parking pass. Had to email the owner the day before travelling to find out where to collect the keys from, and we were never told what time we had to leave by on checkout day - we would have liked a little bit more communication prior to our stay but this didn't cause us any issues. We would stay here again if in the area.
The cottage itself is very nicely presented it is clean and well decorated; there was a welcome pack of bread, jam, cheese, tea and coffee and some milk in the fridge It is relatively small but there was plenty of room for the two of us and teenage daughter. The bedrooms are not large and there is no wardrobes but there were draws and hangers and hooks for clothes and the beds were also really comfortable. The bathroom was clean and the over-the-bath shower worked well. Been small it did not take long to warm the cottage through the boiler heating worked well as did the log burner in the lounge which was easy to light and soon had the place toasty. The kitchen is open plan, the oven, hob and grill were all clean and were easy to use, there were also plenty of cutlery, pans and plates etc. There is a TV with freesat and a Blue-ray player, reception on the channels was good and there is wifi which is available throughout the cottage and was pretty quick even with the three of us using it. We did not visit the garden but did park the car in the available space which is past the cottage, up a fairly steep angled, tight driveway; would not have wanted to go up there in anything larger than my VW Golf! there is however a permit available in the cottage for the nearby car parks. Nearby there is a Co-op and a local "corner shop" and some restaurants and pubs, which we did not try.
Overall is proved to be a good base for our short break and we would happily go there again.
We spent a lovely week staying in this cottage with our 20 month old son. It was clean, tidy and there was even bread, milk, jam and cheese waiting for us on our arrival. The cottage is in the middle of town but tucked away from down a quirky narrow lane so you have the convenience of the shops whilst being away from the main street. There is a car parking space provided but the access is narrow, we managed it in our Ford Focus but anything bigger might be more of a challenge, especially if you value your bumpers! Don't however, let this put you off if you have a bigger car, the lane is wide enough to drop your luggage off outside and there is a permit provided for the town carparks which we also made use of. The South Devon Railway is a short walk away, as is the Otter and Butterfly Centre and Buckfast Abbey is also possible by foot. A great place to base yourself for visiting South Devon and Dartmoor.
I stayed 3 nights at River Garden Cottage. It is ideal for a short break for one person or family of four. The facilities are just right & I would go back again. I have returned twice & it is ideally situated to visit my family & friends.
