“The Barn Scorriton Nr Buckfastleigh”
Reviewed October 23, 2013

We stayed two nights at The Barn, Scorriton, near Buckfastleigh at the beginning of October, having booked a Otter Experience at the nearby Buckfast Otters and Butterflies. Beautiful location on the edge of Dartmoor. Not being a dog owner I had initial reservations before booking dog friendly accommodation. However the Pre-Raphaelite room was scrupulously clean, the bed enormous and very comfortable. The substantial and excellent breakfast was served in an almost baronial dining room and the whole Barn is filled with interesting, quirky objects. Our hosts Pat and Andy were welcoming and very helpful. It was a two minute walk to the local pub, The Tradesman's Arms, a longer distance might have been better to walk off the substantial dinners! The torch left in the bedroom for the walk to the pub was very useful.

Beautiful location. Shame about the weather. Stayed to attend a wedding. Most friendly hosts. Quant accommodation and very relaxing. The highlight of our two night stay was breakfast. What a spread. Delicious! Would definitely stay again

Stayed one night attending a conference at the abbey.
Place was easy to find using sat nav.
I parked in the village but there are spaces for 2 cars at the Barn.

The double room was clean and the double bed was comfortable.
The room is tastefully decorated with the odd but fascinating pieces of personal additions thru-out the room.
There was complimentary tea/coffee and cookies.
The wifi was free and fast.
LCD TV.

The bathroom was small but I managed to shower without any issues.
There is complimentary toiletries.

The room was pretty quiet and slept well until I was awoken by someone walking upstairs.
But managed to fall back asleep.

Breakfast was full english to continental.
And home made preserves was available.

It was raining that day but there is a lovely garden and a swing if anyone wanted to sit outside.
I will return in the springif I am planning a trek to the moors.

The host and hostess are very friendly.

There is a local pub like 100m with good food.

We stayed in the standard double room at The Barn in Scoriton for one night on 10th August priced at £65. The room was beautifully decorated and situated in a separate compartment to the main house, ensuring maximum privacy for the guests. The amenities were in plentiful supply, and the booklet offered excellent information about local Devonshire culture – keep an eye out for the tale of the Scoriton UFO, which is a riveting read! The breakfast was absolutely excellent, particularly as it was tailored to the taste of the individual through a lengthy menu with plenty of choice. The owners were incredibly warm and friendly both on arrival and during breakfast. This room offers impeccable service, especially considering the price and beautiful location. If we are ever in Devon we will certainly be staying again. A real gem.

Just had a lovely four nights at The Barn. Pat and Andy are brilliant hosts and the room was really comfortable. The pub was great and all the villagers are very friendly. We were lucky enough to be there on a weekend with lots going on in the village, which kept us close by for a couple of days but you don't have to go far to reach open moorland. All in all its a fantastic location, the garden at The Barn is wonderful, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it or to return here if we're back in the area, which I hope we will be soon.

A truly beautiful spot and the garden is gorgeous with lots of interesting places to sit and chickens wandering about. The room is full of interesting things, not cluttered but maybe 10 extra fancy cushions in a relatively small room is a bit much! The loo ( with small sink ) and shower are separate with a basin in the room. Good towels. Substantial bed with heavy posts at the corners. A room of olde worlde charm with plumbing to match. A lovely couple make you extremely welcome and the breakfast is just right. We will most certainly return

Room Tip: The butterfly room is more modern

Just spent the one night here unfortunately. Made to feel very welcome at this small cosy place in a lovely location. Close to the moor for walking and a great local pub just down the road for evening meal and a drink to wash it down. Breakfast was brilliant - you won't go hungry !! great value.
