“a lovely winters break”
Reviewed January 22, 2013

We have just arrived home(back to reality) from a couple of nights stay at the Dartbridge. Could find no faults at all. All of the staff were friendly and helpful. Especially Kathy in the mornings, we r very fussy about our breakfast and it was all cooked to perfection and just as we ordered.
The room was clean and of a good size, we loved sitting at the window in front of the radiator, over looking the river dart.
We will definatly book again in February. A big thank you to all.

Room Tip: Room 6 was good if you prefer baths to showers.

Thank you very much for taking the time to give us feedback from your visit. I'm glad you liked our breakfast, I believe it's the best in the market with value and quality so i'm glad you enjoyed it. It's also very popular with walk in guests as you can get this breakfast for two people for only £9.95... I have passed your comments onto the team who will be pleased you mentioned them. We look forward to seeing you again very soon...

Just to be clear - the food and the staff were absolutely fantastic - and the restaurant is definately worth a visit. The problems that we encountered were down to lack of investment in accomodation by Old English Inns, and hence we did not bring our issues up with the inn's management as they had clearly done their best with the resources they had.

We had planned to stay for 2 nights, but were so disappointed with the room/bathroom, we left promptly the next day: Although clean, the room and bathroom (green, chipped with plenty of scale) were so badly dated that they appeared grubby; the room was dark, small, very basic and smelt strongly of perfumed cleaning products; whilst the flat screen tv on the wall looked good, it had limited channels and the controller was broken so we couldn't use it; the toilet only flushed rarely and then took an age to refill; the lighting in the bathroom was pathetic and shadowy at best; the soap provided was slimy; everywhere you walked the floors creaked very loudly. In short, I couldn't wait to get home and have a shower in order to feel clean again - not ideal for a birthday weekend away.
We had felt as though we had found a great deal - £85 for two people, for two nights, non refundable with breakfast -but we definatly would have expected better from a three star rated inn.

I would definate not recommend staying here until they have refurbished, however I would recommend the restaurant, the food from which was delicious, varied and reasonably priced.

Thank you for taking the time to give us feedback. Being an Old English Inn we are designed to fit the name. Giving the guest a comfortable, clean and pleasant stay. I do understand your comments about the dated rooms and we are on a development program which will see us be rejuvenated to a more modern Old English Inn style. As we are energy compliant we do have energy bulbs right across our business and these do take a few minutes to get to maximum levels and with 2 lights in every bathroom we have gone some way to compensate for no natural lighting in the bathrooms. We also Appreciate that given the dark evenings and cold weather the rooms towards the back of the hotel have not benefited from this and we may in these months look to have improved/additional lighting to help meet guests expectations based on your feeback.
Our restaurant team were pleased you enjoyed your dinner experience and we look forward to seeing you again soon.

Hi,
I have stayed at the Dartbridge Inn for 3 nights now and each time I have been impressed with the Quality of the Staff and Facilities.
However the last time I stayed on Sunday 13th January it was exceptional, warm bedroom - dispite the freezing conditions outside - real fire and very warm welcome and great service.

Aileen who serves Breakfast is like my Mother she is so kind, helpful and efficient - and gets me an early starter breakfast, wonderful.

I can say its fantastic and well worth a visit.

Very good food. The manager and all his staff are lovely, cannot fault them or the food at all. If we were that way again, we would go in for a meal, but would never stay there again. Was disappointed that the real fires were not lit as advertised, being January and miserable weather, it would have cheered everybody up to see a lovely fire roaring. There was no heating in the bedrooms for the whole of our stay because it was broken and the engineers , apparently could not get the spares, not good for January, had we have been told of this problem, we would not have gone. The mattress on our bed was very dated, stained and had pits in it, we had to stuff towels in it to level it up. Only 5 bedrooms have nice views. The others did not have a view. From Joyce and William.

Room Tip: Rooms with a view of the river are 6 7 8 9 10

Thank you very much for your feedback. The heating has been a problem and is now fixed, we were unable to foresee when they were actually going to fix this is they did try on many occassions, for this i sincerely apologise. The matresseses are new and to a high standard so i will look into this and rectify or replace. The fire as a rule is on at every opportunity and i have shared your feedback with my senior team to ensure at these cold times our guests get the benefits of the open fire. As we only have 5 rooms yes 50% of them face the front and 50% face the back, we find this is a balance for our guests as some like the view and some prefer a quieter room away from the main road. Room 8 as stated in tips above, for future bookers looks over the back as a quieter and smaller double room. I hope when you visit us again in the near future we can persuade you to use our hotel again and thank you for your feedback i can assure you we are doing everything we can to meet your expectations.

We stayed here for the xmas break, arriving on the 23rd dec. and departing on the 30th.dec. Because of our long stay, we were given a lovely large room with good size bathroom. The only downside of this was the shower(my partner had a hunch back and stiff neck after 1 week!!) But it is an old inn and in need of refurbishment, however the attention given by Denise, the housekeeper more than made up for this, towels and bedding regularly changed. Now to the other staff, admirally led by Kez and Kieren. So many to name but big thanks to Harriet, who was a dream at all times and of course our breakfast "girl!!!!!!", Aileen, who made sure we had full tums every morning! Not to forget Stuart who always had a cheery word at all times. Now to the food, well words cannot describe the standard, 100%+++++. We have eaten in many up-market restuarants, but the Dartbridge takes some beating in this field. Our main thanks for a lovely stay goes to Kieren, what a character!!!!!(love him to bits!!) So, yes I would recommend the Dartbridge Inn, but PLEASE, would the high ups at head office please give them the refurb. that they deserve. Only one criticism before I end this and that is next year, please have a Xmas atmosphere for the guests and organise a bit of entertainment, we realise this is your first year but one has to speculate to accumulate!!!!. Big warning, we will see you again xxxxx

Room Tip: Check on the position of the showers!!!!! Room 6 is lovely and large, but problem with the shower.

Thank you very much for your review! We have already started planning next Christmas and have lots planned to make it one to remember. The team would like to wish you a happy new year and we are looking forward to seeing you both very soon. Room 6 to be fair is the only small shower set up so we will make sure you get another equally nice room with a shower. Kiren is so pleased you mentioned him as I know he is the most guest obsessed person I have ever employed.
Best wishes
Kes, Kiren and the team at the Dartbridge

Lovely warm welcome, cosy and nicely presented. The rooms arnt huge but well big enough for 2. Very comfy beds, only one bad point is that it on a busy main road and even with the window shut traffic passing all night, but after a long day a couple of drinks and a nice meal sleep comes easy.

This is our second visit and Totnes and Dartbridge are well worth a visit, absolutely charming.

Room Tip: choos a room at the back

We would like to thank you for your kind feedback and really pleased you enjoyed your stay. We have quieter rooms for those who wish to stay with us towards the back of the Inn but they do not look over the river dart (and main road). We hope you have a fantastic Christmas and look forward to seeing you in the New Year! Best Wishes Kes Osborne - General Manager - Dartbridge
