“Free Childrens' Entertainment”
Reviewed February 26, 2013

We only found out about this after seeing it mentioned on a Children's Game. This is a fascinating venue. Great for keeping Children of all ages amused for a couple of hours. I suppose its really an outlet store for diverse products such as clothing, kitchen utensils, toys and marbles!!! There are several large marble runs that entertained us for ages, lovely coffee shop, small outdoor play area with climbing frame, whilst the adults can shop. We particularly enjoyed an area where we could watch 'glass blowing' taking place. With Haytor, on Dartmoor only 10 mins away, we had a fantastic day out!

“mixed blessings”
Reviewed October 22, 2012

whilst staying at Moorlands House (different review) we were exploring the lovely village of Bovey Tracey we chanced on the House Of Marbles, and for our own delight thought it very unusual,it is quite a complex of a very nice restaurant,a museum of the past as a pottery, large displays of marbles of all kinds and types, a large drum filled with small marbles which was quite pleasant! to push your hands into!a number of intricate metal sculptures which were driven by marbles and gravity, children can have lots of fun setting these into motion, there is a large gift shop with items to suit all tastes,as you wander through you arrive at the glassworks where you can watch them at work or order something to be made,a popular item were large mutlcoloured glass orbs for mounting on your bannisters at home,at the rear where the old kilns are there is an area for children of all ages!!to try your memory out witha game of marbles, there is an area upstairs with further gifts to be had......we came out with a number of unusual items and glad we hadnt missed it, there was more to see ,but thats up to you!!!

“House of Marbles.”
Reviewed October 2, 2012

I have visited this place several times, mainly to eat there and although I still enjoyed my meal yesterday It does seem to be slipping just a little, considering they do charge quite high prices for their food, a little butter on the potatoes wouldn't go amiss and a reasonable helping of vegetables per person would be good too. The meat Pie was still up to it's usual standard though and I'm sure we'll return again in the future.

“Worth a stop”
Reviewed September 17, 2012

I was recommended this by a friend, and I'm so pleased we stopped on our way past to visit. The museum was fairly interesting, the marble runs were great fun, best of all the largest one above the shop.

The cafe was lovely and the cake was extremely cheap we were both surprised.

The garden area was sweet and were really pleased to find a great big playground and marble toy-thing outdoors after more than three hours in the car.

We bought a handful of marbles and hoped to return because we missed the glass blowing, and missed the pottery side as we were there until closing time.

“It is what it is.”

Worth a visit, interesting exhibits and plenty of things to buy. These range from cheap tat to fine glassware with prices to match. There is a cafe selling snacks and meals all in all worth a couple of hours or a quick coffee stop.
