“Wonderful food, lovely place - went back for more!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 20, 2013

My wife and I had a great dinner here last week, the food and service were the best we have had for many a month. We went for three courses and were delighted with each one, the starters were just the right size and very tasty, the main course cooked to perfection and the puds a beautiful balance to the entire meal.

Indeed so good that my wife, daughter and granddaughter went back for lunch today and were equally pleased. The atmosphere was just right for the lunch and the restaurant has the added attraction of being on the National Trust estate with its woodland and riverside walks. There is an outside lunch area where you can have your dogs beside you and then enjoy the walks afterwards - great place, great location.

“Wonderful food, welcoming service. Hospitality at its best”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 26, 2013

If you want great food in relaxed surroundings head for home farm cafe. This mainly lunch spot does dinners Friday and Saturday night and the food is great, the atmpsphere relaxed and the staff friendly. It's a small menu but we were tempted by every dish. Someone loves their puds and they were perfect..not too sweet but light and delicious. The restaurant prides itself on local sourcing and the menu is full of seasonal things. We were there on a hot July evening so were able to take our coffee outside under the stars. Really magical.

“As good as many posh restaurants”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 9, 2013

We went for an evening meal on a beautiful Friday evening - 4 adults and one 9 year old child and we were able to sit outside in the courtyard on the long wooden bench tables.

First off, parking is good - you need to walk down a steep but short hill to get there, but as we found out later, there are other of routes to the cafe, around the National Trust property which asre less steep.

We were met by a really nice and helpful young man Dean who was very attentive and knew the menu well. Some bread and balsamic arrived quickly. The menu is simple but interesting enough to suit everyone, and the wine list is pretty good coming in at about £15 a bottle for a decent white or rose.

Starters we had were Gravalax, which was delicious and a carrot and orange soup which was also very nice.

Main courses were a delicious creamy risotto, a really well spiced and balance Moroccan lamb with cous cous, a roast chicken in a sauce, and local brill. As you can see from the photos the food is very well presented, but more importantly it was extremely well cooked. There is obviously a lot of talent in the kitchen. It was £24 for 3 courses which i felt was very reasonable.

I think this place will go far, and I believe they are going to be doing some jazz nights. I think this will quickly become a trendy place to hang out in the summer nights (fingers crossed the weather stays like this:)

As we finished our yummy deserts and said our goodbyes we were treated to an amazing sunset in this amazing location. Highly recommended.

“We will return!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 7, 2013

Visiting our family in Devon from Australia we went to Home Farm Cafe for dinner sat outside & enjoyed the views & the beautiful English summer. As for the food well what can I say ... we all enjoyed 3 courses ( I never do that ) but everything was so beautifully cooked using local seasonal produce, superbly presented & flavoursome we couldn't resist! The service was excellent we couldn't have wished for more & will definitely return.

“Almost a 4 star .”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 24, 2013

My wife and I are becoming regular users of this cafe , not just because of it`s location (which we enjoy seperately ) , but because we enjoy the light menu and teas in a very pleasant room . The walks around here have been enjoyed by thousands for a long time , well before the cafe arrived .
The Dartmoor Pony information centre and stables in the grounds of Parke are an added bonus ,
Car parking is free and very handy for the cafe too . As another poster pointed out , it is not disability friendly , the toilets are underneath the building in a courtyard down some very steep steps . The cafe has toilets marked staff only . To enable a 4 star rating off me , I would like to see a sign allowing disabled use of the cafe toilets which may mean spending on upgrading the facility . Able bodied people could still be directed to the excellent facility below . A sign on the car park could direct drivers with disabled passengers to drive to the cafe forecourt , unload the passenger/s and return their vehicle to the car park . Unfortunately there seems to be a vehicle parked in the obvious loading/turning area frequently . Disable drivers would have no place to park down there though . I was under the impression that it was a legal responsibility to make this type of business disabled friendly re access and toilets , if I am wrong , then apologies to the owners . It does seem a shame that such a relatively small improvement wasn`t incorporated during the fitting out of the premises . I haven`t tried the lunch menu yet and if a previous poster is correct , small purchases at lunchtimes are unwelcome , I`ll stick to pub lunches in the area .
