“Stone and thatch ... with a modern twist”
Reviewed August 21, 2017 for a stay in August 2017

A short stroll from the centre of a small but bustling town centre brings you to the delightfully quiet Headborough Farm and the Tithebarn. The rebuilt barn is stunning, spacious and hides a modern interior which marries perfectly with the original stonework. Ashburton is ideally placed for easy access to Dartmoor and South Hams, and, for its size, has more than its fair share of food shops and antique centres. There is even a heated outdoor swimming pool which opens at 7.00 a.m. on two days per week. It's a great start to the day, but do note - the signs are for pedestrians, not cars; park in the town centre and walk.
On a warm, sunny afternoon the patio at the Tithebarn is perfect for a long lunch and the bi-fold doors make it very easy to keep everyone fed and watered.
We had Mabel the dog with us and could take her into an adjoining field which is big enough for serious playtime, if you like that sort of thing.
Stuart and Jane are considerate hosts who put a lot of effort into the place and we enjoyed our stay from the moment we arrived ... and if it's raining, there's always the games room

We are glad that you enjoyed Ashburton and all that it offers. The town's outdoor heated swimming pool is run by volunteers and is open all week...with grassy areas and a cafe it is a great place to chill out, and many of our guests are discovering what a nice place it is.
Thanks for your very positive review.

“Fantastic place to stay”
Reviewed July 30, 2017 for a stay in July 2017

Great location for visiting places. A very warm welcome from Stuart and Jane. We had a very comfortable stay and our daughter, who is a wheelchair user, could get around easily into the shower room and bedroom which are on the ground floor.Stuart and Jane provided a raised toilet seat and there was also a ramp to access the property. The Barn was spotless and was very well equipped. We hope to visit again in the future.

“Outstanding”
Reviewed July 16, 2017 for a stay in June 2017

From the moment of arrival at The Tithe Barn Stuart and Jane make you feel very welcome. The Barn is immaculate, comfortable, very well thought out and equipped to meet your every need. The Barn is beautifully situated a few minutes from Ashburton , a lovely unspoilt Stannary town with a range of interesting shops. If you want a break from self catering there are plenty of eating opportunities in Ashburton and surrounding area, and the Old Library restaurant in the town is well worth a visit. The Barn is also a short distance from the moor and its breath taking scenery.

In summary the Tithe Barn is truly outstanding, in a wonderful location, with welcoming hosts. It is beyond a 5* experience and you could not ask for more.

Thank you for your much appreciated comments. We are delighted that you enjoyed the house and it's amazing location, and hope you will be able to come again soon. I will pass on your review to Jo and Amie who run The Old Library...we agree that they serve great meals in their lovely bistro style restaurant.

“Great pet-friendly top of the range luxury self catering accomodation”
Reviewed June 23, 2017 for a stay in May 2017

We wanted a cottage where we could join together as a family, from the very youngest who was only a couple of weeks old to the eldest who had just celebrated their 70th birthday. We also had a large dog, and someone with limited mobility. Tithe Barn suited us all! Everything had had a lot of thought put into it to make our stay truly luxurious. Stuart & Jane were welcoming - leaving us a welcome pack which included some warm home made scones along with fresh clotted cream and homemade jam. It was a lovely start after our long journey. The Barn itself had a large open plan kitchen/dining room (This had a really great selection of all the kitchen utensils, crockery, everything we needed we found!) a really large lounge with a large Freeview TV, with Netflix, large sofas, a great selection of books/games/puzzles From the lounge, there were floor to ceiling opening doors,so you can walk from the sitting area into the patio courtyard, which has a large table with chairs and parasol, There is also a gas fired barbeque. Also downstairs there is a fully equipped laundry room and a large bedroom with a large wet room and toilet. The shower was top of the range, not only having a rain shower but a hand held one too. Perfect for someone with limited mobility or wheelchair bound. Up a few steps there was a large games room with table tennis table & dart board!! This gave us hours of fun as a family to relax in the evening. Even though wheelchair users couldn't access this, I think you could enter from the backdoor outside and, once you were in the games room, it was disabled friendly. Upstairs there were a further 2 large bedrooms each with a large bathroom and beautiful views overlooking the lovely countryside. Tithe barn was one of the best self catering cottages we've been to. All the little extras that make it truly luxurious. The underfloor heating was lovely too. The only small drawback was the gravel outside the barn which made it hard for the wheelchair. Not impossible, but you needed someone to help push the wheelchair from the car into the barn. We highly recommend this lovely cottage and its very friendly owners.

Thanks for your very detailed review!
We agree that the gravel driveway is not ideal for wheelchair users getting out of cars, so we are planning to extend the patio paving area to provide a better drop-off zone for this purpose.

Fantastic three bedroom cottage situated within easy walking distance of Ashburton and on the edge of the moors suitable for a family of six and also pet friendly, large field for the dog to run around.
The owners made us very welcome, including homemade scones and clotted cream on arrival.
We have already recommend this cottage to our friends and we are planning to return next year

“Perfect base for South Devon holidays”
Reviewed June 16, 2017 for a stay in May 2017

This is a tremendous holiday home, in every possible way. The property itself has been built and fitted out to a vry high standard, and is a real pleasure to live in, the quiet, green spaces all around are lovely, and the hosts are as welcoming as you could hope for.
Ashburton is a fabulous little town, packed with little shops and possibly the best bakery, making the best cakes fresh each morning, that I've tasted anywhere in the world. Really.
But what made this just right for us was the location, as everything is in easy reach, unlike when we've stayed right on the coast for past trips, stuck down winding roads so you end up staying at just one or two beaches. From here its still quick to the beach, but also the moors, parks, forests, towns, cities pubs and restaurants - everything is 20-30 mins drive away. But the house is so comfortable that on a sunny day you sometimes just don't feel like going anywhere.
We had been considering buying a holiday home in south Devon, as we like it so much, but now we won't bother as this looks like becoming a very regular spot for us in the coming years.

Many thanks for your very positive feedback...we agree that the location here is a great asset for any family holiday. Whilst the amazing open moor is only a few minutes drive away, guests can also quickly drive to several great beaches, and numerous destinations including steam trains, zoos, National Trust properties, etc.
You certainly made the best of your stay and we look forward to your next visit!

“Fabulous week away”
Reviewed June 15, 2017 for a stay in May 2017

We had a wonderful stay in the Tithe Barn. Enjoyed many different activities, beach, guided walk on the moors and the Dart Park - which was great for the kids (bring a wetsuit). The barn itself was amazing, very well equipped and the hosts were super helpful. Can't wait to come again to explore this area of Devon - there is so much to do and see.

The guided walk you describe was organised by Moorland Guides. They provide a range of scheduled wildlife, flora and fauna walks on the moor, or ones customised to your needs. The guides know the more hidden and interesting areas, so this avoids just heading for well-known busy spots like Haytor.
The River Dart Country Park is great for kids and active adults...water and woodland based adventures that include a play lake, a pirate ship, and canopy walkways. Many families spend a wonderful full day here, and it is only about five minutes away by car.
We are delighted that you enjoyed your week here so much. Come again!
