Loved the location, right by the harbour. Handy for the local ferries. The house is upside down which the kids loved. Views from the top floor were great. Furnishings were of good quality and nothing was skimped on. Would definitely recommend to anyone wishing to visit the Devon coast.
What can I say that hasn't already been said about this house !! The location is great the fact it is upside down and the living area is on the top floor just makes for great views over the bay. They have thought of everything, a selection of DVD's, CD,s, games, information folder, right down to binoculars to view out to sea. all of which was very welcome on rainy days of which we had many as unfortunately that was the only thing they couldn't guarantee but it didn't spoil our week as the house was so lovely to just chill in. I can honestly say this is the first time I have stayed in a place where I haven't felt the need to get out my holiday cleaning kit before using anything. It was spotless. My first 5 star review on trip advisor and we'll deserved.
We come every year for the Pirate Festival and have stayed in a number of holiday cottages. In our opinion 'Lopes' is the best. The accommodation is spotlessly clean, spacious with good size bathrooms, a massive drying room / ironing room, it even had allocated parking for 2 cars (so rare in central Brixham). The view on to the Fish Market is awesome, kids really enjoyed watching the trawlers come in. When we arrived there was milk in the fridge, lovely posh chocolates and bottle of red wine, bubble bath etc, so thoughtful. I've stayed in places that don't even leave you a tea towel!! Owners really friendly and good communicators (sorry about the lost property). We will be booking again.
What a wonderful place. It was an immaculate three story house right on the harbour at Brixham with terrific views . The house is upside down with the whole of the top floor being a open plan living room kitchen with sensational views across the harbour and Torbay. It has a really well appointed kitchen with some of the sharpest & best cooking knives I've ever seen in a self-catering place, lots of plates, glasses, an excellent freezer, dishwasher etc etc. It also has a large TV with DVD & X-box with multiple films and games available. The only drawback is that there is relatively little room for storing food but I'm sure the owners will rectify that soon.
There are three bedrooms. A master room with en-suite on the ground floor and a twin and a double with shared sumptuous bathroom on the first frloor. We loved the beds [always a ++] and the showers were great.
There are however several things people should be aware of
1. Access in any direction is via several steps so this wouldn't be suitable for a disabled person.
2. The parking space [for 2 cars] is about 200 yds from house up some very steep steps so probably wouldn't be suitable for people who are limited in their fitness. The directions to the parking space are fine as long as you arrive in the light but a bit difficult in the dark. Once again I'm sure the owners will sort this out
3. Because the parking is remote and the lane outside very narrow you have to drop your bags and go. I had a disgruntlef coach driver blasting away with his horn whilst I unloaded!
4. The proximity of the harbour and fish-market means that if you sleep with the window open, there is a fair amount of noise from about 6am. It's not obtrusive unless you are a light sleeper but may ruin your break if you are a light sleeper who needs fresh air to sleep well
We loved the place and will definitely be back
This was our fourth visit and it was every bit as good as the first. Lopes is so well maintained, everything is so new and clean. Best of all the incredible view from the lounge, which over looks the harbour and Torquay in the distance across the bay.
We are already looking forward to our next visit.
Strongly recommend this property.
