“Marvellous Hosts!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 25, 2013

We recently spent three marvellous days in Brixham - made even better by our stay at Sampford Guest House. Matthew and Rosie were perfect hosts - a fine balance of offering attention, information and conversation and letting us get on with our explorations of the area. The accommodation was very fine as were the breakfast offerings that included fresh eggs, sausages, great cereal choices and exquisite home-made ginger marmalade! Thanks for all of this. More especially, the Sampford Guest House website indicates that dogs are welcome. Daphne, our border-less collie, was thoroughly welcomed there, so much so that she was noticeably relaxed! We certainly will all want to return when we next visit Brixham! At least 10 stars!

Room Tip: We chose the harbour view room - (being Canadian Maritimers we are attracted to seagulls' shriek...

Four of us stayed with Mat and Rosie for two nights, 2nd & 3rd of January 2013. Having stayed here before (same time last year) we knew what to expect and couldn't wait for breakfast time. They are the best breakfasts you can get anywhere. The hosts are welcoming and the atmosphere is one of warmth and friendlyness. The views from the bedrooms overlooking Brixham harbour and the town are stunning. In the future when we visit Brixham, we will have no problem in deciding where to stay. It is one of the nicest B & Bs we've ever stayed in.

Room Tip: Ask for one overlooking the harbour.

Just back from a 1 night stay at Sampford and we have got to say it's the best b&b we've stayed in! We booked last minute and were welcomed with open arms! Our bag was collected from the car and whisked up to our room (5) We were given a free parking spot and advised of good (and bad) pubs and restaurants. Our room was spotless, bed was comfortable and we had everything we could possibly ask for. Including an amazing view over the harbour Our plan was to check out a few pubs and have a meal around town however we ended up spending the evening with 'aunty pat' just a few doors down at The Maritime Inn and having one of the best evenings ever!!!

Breakfast the next morning was probably one of the best we've ever had. Local sausages great bacon , perfectly cooked eggs and a huge selection of cereals , fruit , jams and homemade spreads. A really fantastic place to stay. Rosie and Matthew should be very proud!
Thank you we'll definitely be back x Jason and Sarah x

Rosie and Matthew were literally the 'perfect hosts', the rooms were clean and comfortable and there was something for everyone on the breakfast menu - we are already planning our return.
Brixham has history, character, beauty, endless walks and nature and fantastic restaurants and pubs - what more could you ask for?

We have just returned from two nights in the Fisherman's Cottage part of the guest house. We arrived on Friday afternoon to a warm welcome from Rosie and Matthew. Before we knew it, our bags had been transported upstairs to our bedroom and we were free to chill out and relax. We were provided with a parking space down on the harbour, down some steps or a gentle 5 minute stroll.

The cottage retains a lot of "olde worlde" charm and if you're looking for modern wood and chrome minimalist finishes, this won't necessarily be your bag. But if you're looking for comfort, cleanliness and the charm of the English seaside, then you can't do better than book the cottage. For the price of a room, you get a large, modern bathroom, 4-poster bedroom with a glorious view over Brixham harbour, plus a lounge with fire and tv and a small kitchenette PLUS, unusually, a plentiful and excellent breakfast.

Matthew was really helpful in providing local information while Rosie beavered away in the kitchen getting breakfast ready for us each day. We were struck by their friendliness and they certainly do add significantly to the charm of the place.

Despite the dreadful downpours of a weekend which caused flooding nationwide, we enjoyed a fabulous rest in Brixham and will definitely return.

We stayed at Samford for two nights at the end of October. We chose the cottage which ajoined the main guest house.
Rosie greated us as we arrived and helped us unload the car. She was very friendly and knowledgable about the area, giving us useful tips on where to to eat and places to visit.
The cottage was excellent, with views across the harbour, very clean and comfortable.
The breakfast were perfect, cooked by Rosie and delivered to the table by Matthew (who also was very friendly and knowledgable). The bacon (sourced locally) was probably the best we've tasted.
All and all, a wonderful few days and we'll definately be back at some point in the future.

Paul and Alison.

We had a lovely stay over a weekend when in the area for a family party. Matthew and Rosie were extremely helpful, and really willing to be flexible. They didn't mind that we would be late back (we did make sure we were quiet) and accommodated our breakfast timings and all other requests. Had a terrific time and would certainly come again. Ask for a front room as the view over the harbour is fantastic.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a view over the harbour
