Owner description: Shoalstone Sea Water Pool is an iconic feature of the South Devon Coast ... FREE to use and Enjoy! Each year, the Friends work tirelessly to reclaim this historic sea water pool from the ravages inflicted upon it by the wild winter storms and huge seas. Shoalstone Pool is one of only a few remaining sea water poolsin this country. The money raised by the Friends pays for its annual cleaning, painting and recommissioning, and also helps to build a contingency fund in the event of a major storm and any subsequent repairs needed. When you join the Friends of Shoalstone Pool, or contribute via the Square Metre Appeal or attend one of the Friends' fundraising events, you are making an important contribution to the preservation of an iconic amenity which is loved and enjoyed both by local residents and the many visitors to the region. We really welcome your encouragement!

Shoalstone Pool is one of Britain's handful of ancient seawater swimming pools and has been enjoyed by generations since the 18th century. Regularly refreshed by the tide,, it offers safe sea swimming at no cost. But there's the rub - after centuries of free use, plans are under discussion at the local authority to charge for admission. It was bequeathed to usfree by past generations and should stay that way.

This is one of the finest outdoor pools in the country. For the last week in October the water was surprisingly warm and so a dip was essential. Check out the old Victorian show cave across the road from the car park. It's hidden in the trees but worth searching for.

One of only a few outdoor sea water filled pools in the country......learned to swim here in about 1750......it is the pride of Brixham, and must never be allowed to close.....if Torbay council don't want to run it, give it back to Brixham, with the car park, so the revenues from that can help to sustain it.

This is a superb facility and should be used! We walked past this pool when the tide was in and it was completely submerged, so it's obvious that it is filled with fresh seawater every day. It's free, and there are a few cubicles (admittedly open) where you can change. Loos nearby. Car park. Felt it was a shame not more people were using it, as we were there when the weather was warm. I went in on my own and felt like I was providing the entertainment! However, shortly afterwards several people (mainly children) came in. (Yes the water's cold, but you soon warm up!) Hope the Friends of Shoalstone Pool will be able to keep this facility - good on them for making sure it's still there.
