“Great Weekend”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 27, 2012

We recently had a great weekend's stay at the Berry Head Hotel. The staff were exceedingly friendly, helpful and had specially arranged three gifts to be in our room for our arrival. The flowers remained fresh for more than two weeks. The magnificent views and nearby walks are an added bonus.

Room Tip: Higher rooms overlooking the sea have great views and no noise. Balconies are ideal during the summe...

I got the feeling as I entered that this place looked a little tiired and on encountering the matre de who reminded me of Basil fawlty I knew we were in for an unusual eve , not wrong there then . I thought the food was very medicos and the beautiful view that this place boasts was unfortunatly none existent owing to the fog will not be returning

Dear Trustaurus

I'm sorry you found your meal Mediocre it is not our normal standard, and it's a shame it was foggy for your visit because after living here for 19 years I still find the view breathtaking. Now you mention it our Maitre'd is a little reminiscant of Basil Faulty maybe its his moustache.
Im sorry You will not be returning as we have many repeat customers who enjoy their experience time and time again.

Yours sincerely E J Bence

just returned from this great hotel. booked for 7 nights, decided to stay for 10 as enjoyed it so much. fantastic room (24) with superb views over the sea to torquay & paignton. this hotel has everything - great sea view rooms, swimming pool, restaurant, bar, patio, large car park and of course friendly staff. fantastic breakfasts with red hot plates and cooked breakfast (eggs, bacon, sausage, mushrooms, tomato, beans, fried bread, saute potatoes, hogs pudding !) and of course the help yourself items - cerials, juices, yoghurts, fresh fruit, jams. loverly thick toast. we enjoyed the carvery on the sunday. excellent selection of real ales in the bar. check in all smooth & friendly. felt like nothing would be any problem as staff were there to help. housemaids do excellent job, with fresh tea/coffee/biscuits/toiletries/towels/and rooms done daily. once you get inside the hotel you cant believe how big it is ! has a lift. very quiet and peaceful. we took our 2 toy poodles (dog friendly hotel). superb walks (for walkers + dogs) up to berry head and the views are out of this world. as we drove back home to the midlands we both agreed this has to be the best hotel we have stayed in (we go away all over britain every 6 weeks for holidays !) and we have stayed in some top class hotels. just 15 mins to torquay 10 mins to paignton and brixham 3 mins drive. you wont be dissapointed - you will love it ! we will go again for sure.

Room Tip: room 24 has 2 sea view rooms looking over to torquay and paignton - and the steam trains leaving pai...

Myself and my husband live locally and go to enjoy drinks in the bar/bistro at the Berry Head Hotel (note: we haven't stayed so cannot comment on the hotel experience). The staff are always welcoming and friendly which makes our visits very enjoyable. The bar/bistro area is clean, and the atmosphere is very good. There is entertainment provided on Thursday/Friday/Saturday evenings by a local band/singer, and Pam provides excellent piano entertainment on Sunday lunchtimes. We always enjoy our visits to the Berry Head Hotel, and the location is second to none. Highly recommended!

I stayed frequently at the Berry head ,every six weeks in fact over a three year period and was drawn back to the place because it is good value for money and because I never felt uncomfortable there when staying overnight on business by myself. It has a mixed clientele and thats a relief if you are travelling alone.I don't know whether its family owned but it feels as if it ought to be .Just pleasantly quirky enough to be so ~ it has a character and its a mild and inoffensive sort of character. The Bar Meals are good and the Steaks seem always popular.I have only ever eaten in the Bar when the Dining room was so deserted (January) that it seemed a shame to make them deploy staff on my account. For starters try their local Scallops ~excellent and the lamb is always first rate ~even if you have to pay a very modest surcharge for both its worth it .Not fussed about the cheese board ~your much better off with their puddings and ice cream. The best is yet to come though > don't forget to have a liquer coffee and whatever you do don' miss breakfast ~ its the proper job ! especially the Hogs Pudding !

Room Tip: THE SEA VIEW ROOMS ARE GREAT ~ AND THEY WILL NEGOTIATE,you may be woken by Scallop trawlers dragging...

Having been to this hotel on several occations, we find the veiw breathtaking, but the food is a different story. They say they use local produce, having just recently been to a function there, we found that the food when served was luke warm, and we had a cream tea which the scones were brought in from a local supplier frozen, then defrosted, you could taste the baking powder. The waiters carried out the food to the tables with dirty serving clothes and some even had dirty uniforms. I think its time that the management took notice to what people write on trip advisor and tried to improve the quality of its food and live upto its star rating.

Dear Bimboloo
I am glad you love the Views
I can only apologise for you not enjoying your food, but can assure you that it is locally sourced wherever possible. Scones are made on site. Meat comes from a Cornish Butcher or the family Farm in Feniton. Most of the vegetables are delivered by the farmer himself. and the fish of course comes from Brixham.

I hope if you come again you enjoy it as we always aim to please people.

We had stayed at the Berry Head Hotel several times over the past few years and were surprised to see a few negative reviews before we booked again for August. Our fears proved unfounded and it lived up to its previous high standard. Some of the rooms are slightly outdated but the food, service and brilliant location more than makes up for this and we can take our dog too. We have no hesitation in recommending the hotel to others.
