“Better fish shops in Torquay, but better than Sheffield fish!”
Reviewed October 14, 2012

Living in Sheffield most of the fish shops are pretty ropey as the fish just isnt fresh enough - Visited several fish shops over the week I was in Brixham and this was the worst, but it was still better than what I get at home so what can you say? Chips were speckled brown, tasted OK not great... Fish small and batter damp, but the fish tasted fresh and firm! With fresh, firm flaked fish so readily available on their doorstep this had to be the case though! Wouldn't rush back, but better than most places inland...

“Give it a miss!”
Reviewed September 27, 2012

After seeing this place on the recent TV programme Fish Town, we decided to give it a try.
When we entered it looked so old fashioned, but sat and ordered any way.
Ordered the specials and what a let down, the fish was like you would expect from a frozen
pack for £1-00 from some cheap shop,
No taste in the fish at all left most of the chips, very big let down, wish we had gone to simply fish on the front.
So if you do visit try the dearer stuff not sure what it's like, give the special a miss it's rubbish!
Sorry Roi Fish Bar big let down, from looking good on TV

“Best cod and chips this side of Whitby!”
Reviewed September 21, 2012

We ate here because most other places were full, but to be honest it was the best thing that could have happened to us. We ordered Cod and chips and scampi and chips, 2 glasses of coke, the waitress was great, gave us loads of cartons of tartare sauce and my husband alson had mushy peas, total cost for this really scrumptious meal, £16.95! bargain, couldn't fault the food at all, real chips, not frozen and lovelt medium cod which filled the plate!

“Definitely below average”
Reviewed September 20, 2012

With so much competition in the town you would have thought this on tucked away would need to be on top form to survive, but it's far from it. Not the cheapest either. The chips were dry and crunchy, not crispy, they were covered in black specs, like they had been heavily black peppered, this is due to cooking in old dirty oil/fat. Also the fish batter was very dark in colour, but not cooked on the inside, so had that wall paper paste effect inside, again as a result of dirty oil the batter darkens too quickly. Neither fish or chips were flavoursome, they even had a sign outside saying best cod in Brixham. Come on if you make a bold statement, live upto it.Would certainly avoid this place as there is plenty of choice in the town.

“Wouldn't feed the chips to my Dog”
Reviewed September 10, 2012

Visited Rio Fish restaurant on our Holiday in Brixham the place was clean and me and my auntie ordered cod and chips each, the cod was ok but the chips were horrible left nearly the lot of them, tasted like they were just warmed up, my advice is go to a propper chippy.
