Owner description: Brixham Heritage Museum was delighted to be awarded a Trip Advisor Certificate of Excellence for 2015, the third year running, thank you all for making this possible! We were also joint winners of the Family Friendly Museum Award in 2013,despite nationwide competition. We offer a choice of activities which are suitable for a variety of ages, and we hold many 'special days' both within and outside of our Museum. There are opportunities to become amateur archaeologists, no matter how young, and many other "hands-on" experiences are found on both floor levels inside the building. For all visitors there are a variety of displays ranging from the prehistoric to the 1950s, with particular emphasis on the maritime industry of the area. We also offer Family History Research for all areas, and hold regular talks and social activities. For further information please view our website.

It was a carefully planed day out by my husband and I have to say I was not enthusiastic we arrived at Brixham and took a leisurely walk to the museum as we went it we were immediately aware it was small there was no entry fee thankfully as I would of asked for my money back. I was trying hard to take in all the museum had to offer which is not a lot but clearly I was just in everyone's way which made me feel awkward and just in the way on the plus side the staff were so friendly and helpful clearly proud of there museum, however Brixham is such a friendly town with lots to see and do my day wasn't a complete waste of time

We are sorry that you did not enjoy your recent visit to Brixham Heritage Museum. Wednesday 30th October was a different and very special day for us as we were officially celebrating our joint win (shared with the Horniman Museum, London) in the Telegraph Kids In Museums Award 2013. This was indeed an accolade for us as we competed against over 140 other Museums, including the big national ones. Our skeleton staff and volunteers worked tirelessly throughout the half term week. We are indeed small in comparison to some, but we have two floors of displays and information on Brixham's history which we are pleased to say the vast majority of visitors enjoy. Our Museum is usually not as crowded as it was on the day you visited, but with free admission, free refreshments, free face painting, free sweets and free children's activities the day proved a huge success and we have received many favourable comments from parents and children.

Went to Brixham Heritage Museum primarily for my husband who lives anything to do with history. I went with an open mind but find the displays to be really interesting. The poor drunken sailor in the prison cell -hope his head wasn't too bad the next day! Well with the £2 entry fee

Having just taken over as the TripAdvisor manager of Brixham Heritage Museum, I would like to thank you all for your kind and generous comments. Our skeleton staff and willing band of volunteers are always fund raising to support on going refurbishments to ensure that our displays are presented in the best way possible.
We are very proud to announce that we are joint winners of the Telegraph Kids In Museums Award for 2013! It is indeed an honour to be recognized for all we offer children, whether on a daily basis at the Museum or in our many special events.
We try to accommodate everyone....we have spaces for prams and wheelchairs to be left, baby changing facilities, a ground floor toilet for the disabled, reduced admission for those who cannot manage the stairs (with a book of photographs and information on what is on our first floor, which can be read in the comfort of 'below stairs'), and we are dog friendly too.
We look forward to hopefully welcome you again.

The museum is well tucked away. Definitely worth the £2 entrance fee. Some lovely exhibits and lovely warm knowledgeable staff too. Admittedly it doesn't look much from the outside and we expected to be in/out in 10 minutes - we were wrong, you could easily lose a couple of hours taking in all the information available. Other museums could take a leaf out their book as to how it should be done. Well worth a visit if you are in the area.

Visited with 2 children (3 year & 18 months) and they loved it. From the moment we walked in off the street we were made to feel welcome. The children were treated to quiz sheets, crafts and dressing up which allowed us to take in the museum. Very interesting and informative...overall its a must for a couple of hours entertainment...especially with children!
