“Go for the view”
Reviewed September 22, 2012

Never stayed in as a hotel as live fairly close, we do take guests to eat there or have a drink mainly because of the Berry Head's position overlooking the bay. It has a great outside terrace and the view is fantastic, we have even sat out on the terrace for drinks on Christmas Day enjoying a walk and fresh air away from the Christmas ritual of TV and food ! Our dining experiences have been mixed over the past 20 years or so. We last went to dine in the evening for a family event in late June 2012, service was appalling, customer skills in bar dining area non-existent, food mediocre. Obviously staff and the menu has changed more than once over a long time but this year is the worse we have known it for the food side. We do go quite often for a drink especially after walking in the Berry Head Country park which is just above the hotel, but even having a pot of tea or coffee there is no longer as nice as even a year or two back. I ordered sandwiches recently and what was served was not what I would expect from this establishment. The hotel has a prime position in the bay, we will continue to use it for drinks in the bar or on the terrace.

“Restaurant review”
Reviewed September 14, 2012

I recently took some elderly relatives to the Berry Head Hotel for lunch. My relatives are all locals, so know the hotel well. The service was slow (when we managed to find someone to take our order), the food average and luke warm. It's a good job for the hotel that they have a fantastic view, otherwise they would lose a lot of trade. What a shame.

“Good place - lovely views”
Reviewed September 13, 2012

Have been many times - but being a local only for food and drink, not to stay. Last was for a lunchtime 'celebration' following a funeral service. Good beer ( and I am a CAMRA member) and nice food. Generally good service.

Sit outside with a drink and enjoy fabulous views

“Yet another wonderful evening.”
Reviewed September 6, 2012

We have dined here regularly over the past three years and have never had a anything close to a bad experience.

The food is always superb and there is an excellent choice of specials too, particulary the fish choices which are all sourced locally.

Once you've had your dinner, take a walk on the terrace overlooking the bay. The views are stunning and you'll forget that you've overeaten!

“Ok for Lunches”
Reviewed September 1, 2012

Used to go to the Berry Head all the time for family lunches etc, Unfortunately over the past year the hotel seems to have gone done hill! Outside area looking old & tatty. The lunchtime menu isn't cheap, and unfortunately the standards have dropped which is a shame. I know we are in a recession and everyone is cutting back, but cutting standards will only cut your customers!!!!!!!!!!!!!
We also looked at this venue for our upcoming Wedding, Receptionist gave us directions to the function suite & a wedding brochure, we started walking down the corridor past the swimming pool & we thought we had entered staff quarters! Table clothes & tables just dumped. We carried on & looked at the room, our mind was made up from the corridor, and if they cannot keep it clean on a daily basis will it be clean for our Wedding day?
We will try lunch again and hopefully the standards will be back to what they used to be.
