But the place stank, the staff were unfriendly, and the menu listed so many rules about what was and what was not acceptable behaviour that I decided we had better leave before I found myself reprimanded for the heinous crime of accidentally asking to have beans instead of peas. Really, people want to relax when they eat out, not be told how to behave.

..... compared to the Crab Quay House - how on earth the prices can be more when the food, ambience, staff, view etc are of a far lesser quality beggers belief!
We didn't have children with us so were not "barked at" by the staff. The decor is what you see so you accept that, the food was lovely - decent local fish should not be destoyed by a competent chef any way. Would I go back - not really; nor will you when you have discovered the Crab Quay House!!!

My wife and l were attracted to Saxtys from how it looked from outside, most tables occupied, gallery of oil paintings on walls, tables laid out nicely and seemed inviting,. Good wine list which is important to us but maybe a titch overpriced. £25 for New Zealand Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc Oyster Bay, should be £20. Food was very good, presented well and fish best l've had in ages and l eat out in restaurants regularly every week. Staff pleasant, nice ambience, good atmosphere, l left a £10 tip and would definitely return to Saxtys....Since my visit l saw the reviews of previous customers and find their comments surprising. Personally, l prefer restaurants without screaming kids, some parents have no consideration for other people wishing to have a quiet dinner in a nice establishment.

I am puzzled as to why such an awful anti-child restaurant like Saxtys would open it doors in such a family friendly fishing town like Brixham. It has a prime location, and looks really quaint, but beware, they really are quite horrendous. The food isn't great either. I have no idea how they are still in business.
