Description: The Braunton Inn in Barnstaple is a country pub & restaurant oozing rural charm and rustic character. Our picturesque surroundings provide the perfect backdrop for savouring the hearty, seasonal pub-food on our menu, and the carefully nurtured cask ales and fine wines gracing our bar.

We stopped here for a pub lunch. The menu was a bit overpriced but the place is in a nice and touristy area so that's OK. We were seated in a dark, cramped corner in a part of the restaurant that was overcrowded. We asked one waitress if we could move to an empty table by a window and she said no because it was reserved. There was no reservation and another waitress let us move... My sister's steak was seriously overcooked. It was sent back much much later with the same sides (now cold). Nothing was done to make this up to us. I wouldn't recommend eating here at all.

Lovely location for lunch. Bit disappointed that there was no lunch menu, on Monday only full meals. Ordered the Haddock & Chips, lovely piece of fish, which was quite large and freshy cooked. My friend ordered the fishcakes, looked a little over cooked, by he said they were good. The next table, ordered before us, and their starters came up quick, they were complaining about the lack of food on their plates, but we had eaten all our lunch and were leaving and they still had not received their main meal. They were looking very put out by this and im not suprised.

Service was slow and the food was not only cold but tasteless aswell, the staff were rude and grumpy and it made me feel uncomfortable. Nice setting however I will not be returning to this dreadful establishment.

This turned out to be my third visit in a short space of time to a Vintage Inn. We called on spec on a Saturday evening, were greeted immediately and given a choice of tables. A waitress appeared at once to offer us drinks but we opted to study the menu first.

We all chose pies and didn’t have to wait too long before they were served – we all enjoyed our meal and there was a good choice of wines. Service was friendly and efficient.

Not a lot more to say really – but out of the three Vintage Inns I have just visited, I think this one just had the edge on the other two. (Maybe that had something to do with visiting on a Saturday evening, rather than a busy Sunday lunchtime.)
