“Good light lunch”
Reviewed November 25, 2012

We were looking for a light lunch and happened to be close to the Williams Arms. What luck! The friendly barman suggested the small plate carvery and it was exactly what we needed. A good portion of turkey and pork with freshly cooked vegetables. Excellent value for money and they sell Doom Bar ale so top marks all round.

“Lovely meal good service”
Reviewed November 12, 2012

We were staying in Croyde for the weekend and whilst filling the car at the garage I asked the owner where he would eat and he recommended the William Arms. I must say I'm surprised by some of the other reviews as my friend and I had smashing meals. I had venison stew which was really tasty whilst my friend had the biggest plate of gammon and eggs I think I've ever seen. The service was friendly and good but not overly intrusive like some places. The staff gave us their recommendations for dessert which we took. I cant remember what they were but I know the plates were cleaned! It wasn't the cheapest pub meal but it was reasonable for what we had. We thoroughly enjoyed it!

“Smash and possibly warmed up vegetables from the carvery”
Reviewed November 11, 2012

I've been before a few years ago and really enjoyed the carvery however we went there today after the carvery ended and ate from the menu

I ordered the cod

it was over cooked and dry and tasted like it had been under a heat lamp for ages. The mash looked strange and on taste I'm pretty sure it was smash bland mush and vegetables were tasteless.I couldn't eat it half of it.My partners pie was o.k but again his peas were full of water and had bits of carrot on them. His chips were ok if a bit greasy I would suggest don't go after three on a Sunday. This was one of worst culinary experiences I've had in a while and not the cheapest

“You can judge a Restaurant by how it deals with a complaint...”
Reviewed November 10, 2012

I had rung the day before and booked a table for 4 as it was my daughters 16th Birthday. As they operate on a 2 x sittings at Lunch I was informed that it started at Midday but the table must be free by 1.45pm. This was fine but as we were coming from 25 miles away I informed them I would not arrive until 12.30. When we arrived it was heaving with a long line to the carvery. We went to the bar and I gave my name...My husband and daughter looked around and noted no free tables. We were told that as we had arrived at 12.30 someone had given our table away! Not impressed I reminded them that I had expressly informed them I would not be there until 12.30. We were asked to go to the bar whilst they tried to sort a table out. We paid for our drinks and were informed the next round would be on them and then waited for about 15minutes. They then called us back to say a table was being laid. They remained calm and polite and we then had the Carvery. There was enough food to sink a ship with over 10 types of veg and 3 choices of meat. No fault on amount you could have....Food quality was good but not excellent. It was £9.50 per person which is neither expensive or cheap. We did not have another drink and were too stuffed to eat a dessert. We were out by 1.30pm...Would we go again? Yes but not on a Sunday as too busy and not for a special occasion... but good for a Sunday Roast.
