Even in mid-winter this is a very pleasant hotel to stay at. The setting is superb with the expanse of Saunton Sands stretching out in front of the hotel. The art deco style of the hotel has been well maintained, both inside and out.
The reason for my visit was to attend a conference, so I took advantage of this and my wife accompanied me. She found that there were plenty of lovely walks starting from the hotel, so she did not need to use the car once. A leaflet on possible walks is available from the hotel reception. The room was nice and clean, although the extra wide bed was rather irksome, with too many pillows. Food was excellent, but not cheap. Breakfast was entirely a self-service affair, but there was plenty of variety on offer.
Conference facilities are good, but the room became rather stuffy at the end of a long session. The rather lurid paintings on the wall of the conference room are probably there for wedding receptions, but may not be to everyone's taste. Morning coffee and afternoon tea were served in conference breaks, but again were self-service, which slowed things down rather.
All in all the hotel and the conference were a pleasant experience and this hotel is to be recommended for this type of event.More
