“Another Fantastic Holiday!”
Reviewed July 6, 2011

This was our second consecutive holiday visit to Willowfield Lake, staying again in Swallow cottage with our 2.5yr old son and my folks joined us this time also hiring the cottage next door. The cottages are immaculate and have everything you need, Terry & Wendy are the perfect hosts and really nothing is too much trouble for them. We thought we'd attempt using the break as the time to move our son out of a cot into a bed, after a bad first night Terry & Wendy came to the rescue quickly assembling a cot and turning the room round - Needless to say our son then decided he didn't want the cot the next night & spent the rest of the week in his 'cosy' bed!!
The location is fantastic, just a short drive from Saunton Sands beach and then a few more miles along the coast to Croyde and our favourite Putsborough Sands which when you arrive early feels like your own private enclave! (you just need to survive the crazy drive down the narrow lanes!!) Braunton the nearest town, again just 5mins in the car has all you need & there is lovely new Tesco's just before you get into town so you can stock up as & when you need. Willowfield has plenty to occupy all ages whatever the weather from the indoor pool and the games room loaded with toys, games, rackets, balls etc to the toddlers play area and the larger playground (which our little bundle of energy loved even if he needed some help!) Swallow & the connecting cottages had the added bonus of private rear gardens which we thought are well worth the extra cost + we also had the hot tub which we were using all the time and the little man loved it also. Terry & Wendy have really thought of everything and are always seeking new ways to improve the holiday experience. Superb accommodation, hosts & location, I'm sure we'll be back for a third year!

Just a quick note to say I completely agree with all the 5 star reviews already posted on here. I think it's all been said, so I'll just say, you won't regret chosing this as a holiday if you have young kids, or even older kids if they have a few friends as there is loads of space to play in the grass areas.

A stay at Willowfield is highly recommended. This was our first holiday away with our daughter who is 21 months old. Wendy and Terry, the owners, have obviously put a great deal of thought into what families like us need. Cots, high chairs, plastic plates, cups and cutlery for our little one was all provided.

Willowfield is tucked away in a very peaceful setting with sheep, cows and ducklings en route to the cottages. It also has a Tescos no more than 5 mins away so you're sorted for food and drink when you get there.

Wendy and Terry have provided a games room for the children (we didn't need to take toys at all) and a swimming pool which we used by ourselves. Slides, swings and play equipment provided for the young ones with an adventure playground for the older ones.

Lots to do near the cottages, would particularly recommend Woolacombe beach, Watermouth castle and the Big Sheep.

Can't recommend these cottages highly enough. We will definitely be returning. It's no wonder they have 4 diamonds for their accommodation. Well deserved.

Great place - if you have kids go there. the cottages are situated about 5 minuted drive from braunton and there are numerous sandy beaches within a short drive. Braunton is nothing special - although there is a nice place for lunch called "All ...." (sorry can't remember the rest, but if you stay at the cottages it's in their list of recommendations.

the cottages are set in a rural location - very peaceful. Amenities include a heated indoor pool, a games room, two playgrounds and a lake. the place is geared towards families with young children and the owners have got it spot on!

the pool is warm, the games room is a bit like ELC (ie very well equipped with toys!), and my two year old loved the play areas.

Accomodation is clean and comfortable (beds a tad soft for my liking but still comfortable). I personally think the photos on the website don't do it justice, I think in reality the cottages are more homely than they look on the website. Good shower, 2 bedrooms and quiet. owners seem very nice, and were very helpful.

if I was in the area again i would definitely stay at Willlowfield lake cottages again and I would definitely recommend to anyone.

Make sure you go to the BigSheep and if you have a push chair don't go to combe martin dinosaur park - you'll see my review elsewhere on tripadvisor!

We've just returned from a week spent in Swallow with our 4-year old. We couldn't have wished for a warmer welcome from Terry and Wendy, to match the awesome weather too!

The facilities are brilliant for young children and adults alike. The cottages are well-equipped, spotless and very comfortable. Wendy and Terry are always on hand without being too obtrusive. The beaches are all nearby and simply stunning; I can imagine them being great fun even when the weather isn't too great - but if it rains, there is always a lot to do at Willowfield.

The tesco is nearby, the restaurants in the vicinity are fantastic - we didn't have a bad meal - Squires was the absolute favourite for us, we can still taste the fish and chips.

Lastly - I was slightly perturbed by the lack of internet access in the complex, but I am now so glad that it isn't available - it makes for complete relaxation. I read my first novel in months!

We will be back at Willowfield - if hubby had his way, we'd be back there next week!

Room Tip: Swallow was great - personal hot tub!

We've just got back from a week staying in the Mallard cottage with our 14month old. The cottage is well equipped, clean, cosy and fairly toddler proof. Terry and Wendy were always available, friendly and welcoming - they even threw an inpromptu royal wedding garden party which was great for all the guests to get together.

The facilities for children were great with a heated indoor swimming pool, indoor play area with a secure toddler/ baby play area and outdoor play area (one for toddlers and one for older children). This was our first holiday with these types of facilities on site and we'll definately be looking for other places to match this standard.

Overall, the whole place was clean, tidy and well maintained and they were keen to understand any suggestions we had for improvements.

We'd be very happy to go back there again.

Just returned from a week in Moorhen, my family also stayed in Mallard for the weekend and I highly recommend both these cottages and site. The cottages were well equipped with everything you could possible need, my daughter has a young child and highchairs, stairgates proper cots all were supplied free of charge. Moorhen has a jacuzzi bath which was lovely to relax in at the end of the day, Mallard has a hot tub which was very nice too.The games room was well equipped with a sectioned off area for younger children with lots of toys which kept the little one happy while the adults played pool and table tennis. The indoor pool and hot tub were lovely and very well heated which was nice. The owners are very welcoming and friendly and nothing was too much trouble with a real attention to detail. Thanks Terry and Wendy we all had a great time and hope to come back again very soon.
